Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThere are so many times when we have misplaced something whenever it is needed the most, sometimes it’s your Keys or Phone or Wallet or can be different things. Keeping track of things was never easier but not anymore. We all know the struggle of misplacing things but what if we could keep track of all the things and just look them up on our smart phones and track them easily. In this project we will try to find the mostly used daily life objects like keys, wallet, cards like CNIC or University ID whenever they are misplaced and you need them the most. We will use an IPS System to track different things using ESP devices with a secure application specially built for this purpose.
Project ObjectivesThe aims and objectives for the project are simple which is to develop an app which will be easily available with a set of ESPS for tracking. Tracking things won’t be difficult after this. The app will have easy and simple interface to communicate with the users even if they are using it for the first time. The ESPS will also be able to convert into a marketing strategy with slight changes if provided with enough resources for that.
Project Implementation MethodIn order to implement our project, you need five ESP8266 WIFI modules. Basically, the ESP8266 is a Wi-Fi microchip, with a full TCP/IP stack and microcontroller capability. Four ESP8266 are placed on each corner of the room or place to cover whole area and one ESP8266 will be attached to the object (keys, wallet or wheelchair etc.) which you are finding. After Connecting these ESP8266 Wi-Fi modules with each other, we will create an app or interface that will connect those four ESP8266 with the ESP8266 which is attached to the object.
Each ESP8266 sends recent RSSI (radio signal strength indicator) to the app which will process these data.
Distance Estimation
Based on the received RSSIs, you can get an estimated distance (in meters) to each ESP8266.By using the Log-distance path loss model.
Location Estimation
Based on the estimated distances to nearby ESP8266, the Indoor Positioning singleton can calculate the current geo coordinates of the device that received the advertising data. It utilizes the Multiliterate class for that, which solves a formulation of n-D space trilateration problem with a nonlinear least square’s optimizer (using the Levenberg–Marquardt algorithm).
The Location will contain latitude, longitude and altitude, as well as some convenience methods to get the distance or angle to a different location. The position will be displayed on an app which will contain a 2D Map and will work in real time. The app will be secured with a database for storing object mac address so no other device could access the location of the object which is not meant for it.

Our hardware-based application will assist you in finding your lost items when they are needed. Items may include keys, wallet, ATM card holder, TV/AC remote, mobile, tablet etc.
In addition, it is also beneficial for Alzheimer patients, as it is difficult for them to keep things in mind. Consequently, by our application they can easily track down those things at the right moment when they are needed the most.
SECURE & RELIABLE
When a client will use our application, it will generate an encrypted mac addresses which will be accessible to that particular user only. No one can access that user’s software until and unless the user himself shares his mac address with someone else. With the aid of that mac address, the user can secure his misplaced sensitive stuff such as ATM cards or NIC cards etc. which can only be tracked down by that particular user (in case they are not lost in a public place).
CAN ALSO BE UTILIZED ON COMMERCIAL LEVEL IN FUTURE
This hardware-based application system has wide commercial employments. Indeed, in spite of the fact that for now this system will serve as a prototype for interior rooms and small workplaces only, yet with a number of changes in the code, it would be adequate sufficient for marketable purposes as well. For example, with the help of this ESP gadget, the user will be able to get push notifications about the services, bargains and products etc. whenever he/she enters in any eatery, grocery shop or any outlet. This new innovative technology can moreover be implemented on commercial levels such as into shopping centers or stores, in case someone tries to steal any stuff.
Once the project is ready, it will come with a set of ESPS and closed source application for smart phones.
The users will put the ESPS in their homes at suitable locations and install the app in their phones. An ESP will be attached with the object to be tracked. The ESP for the objects will be small in size and will come in different sizes and different shapes, e.g., Keychains, Sticky ESPS and mini ESPS to be put in your wallets.
The app in the smart phone of the user will be super friendly and easy to operate. The user will enter the mac address for the object to be tracked and it will start tracking the object and will show its location on a 2D Map. The app will show the distance (in meters) to the lost object. When the user gets close to the object then the ESP attached to the object will start making noise so it becomes more easier to be tracked. The app will have a database locally and also on the cloud so if the user switches to a different phone, even then He/She will be able to use it without losing any of the data.
