-We are going to design a “Smart Device” , which detects and informs the user or installer ; when the placed items in the refrigerator are about to end and tells which item is about to expire. All this is informed to the user by mode of IoT
( Internet of things ).
Problem statement:
- There is already work done by an application which provides the manual entry of item names and dates. Even though these applications save the details of the food in a database and give notifications, it takes a really long time to manually enter each item into the application and may be inconvenient and also there are some system designed which tells about the shortage of items by means of some weight sensors.
Our role:
-Our role in existing application is; we will use image processing technique to optimize the overall performance and detecting sensors which are less costly compared to weight sensors.
Project ObjectivesKey objectives of our FYP are;
- To monitor the food items.
- To keep the user up-to-date about food items
- To prevent food wastage/spoilage
- Firstly , we gave a in depth look on literature review and the practical approach to our project.
- By keeping in view all the study and research , the Raspberry pi and other key hardware’s are such interconnected and well programmed that they perform a smart function of one unit.
- There will be continuous cycle of output testing unless the desired output comes.
- The desired output will be tested on some digital tools , or simulation-based software’s etc.
- As we get success to our simulation/digital based area, we will move to hardware implementation side and work on the prototype for verification.
- Finally , the evaluation phase will be done and make sure all the desired objectives are achieved.

Benefits in a nutshell:
- Easy tracking of items by user
- There will be almost no stock out hustle.
- Easily tracking of food spoilage time.
- A friendly approach to monitor current stock status.
- A well control overcome the food wastage.
- To prevent user from black market.
We used Raspberry pi microcontroller as our main processing unit. The moment when placed items are about to end , the load cell’s interruption would occur and give ping to controller.
The controller is such programmed ; it would gather the information and act according.
For expiry date detection same Raspberry pi is interlinked with the camera ; camera will read the expiry date and ping to controller using backend program.
All this information is sent to internet database which is the part of IoT.
