Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has today become a major source of fuel, particularly in urban areas. Therefore, gas leakage has also become a crucial problem both in the industrial and residential sector. Today, the home security has become a major concern due to increasing gas leakage cases. Many people lose their life due to the accidents associated with the gas leakage, both in the industrial and residential sector. Hence, one of the preventive measures to stop such accidents and save lives of people is to deploy a gas leakage detector system at risky sites. The aim of this proposal is to present and discuss the design of a gas leakage detector system that can automatically detect and alert about the gas leakage to minimize the disasters associated with it. This suggested system also includes an SMS alert system for the users.

Project Objectives

The end-goal of the proposed system is to detect and control the Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) leakage to avoid the fire and suffocation accidents providing a key house safety feature where security has been always the major concern. Thus, contributing to the society to help overcome the various mortality resulting in both the loss of economy and life due to such incidents.

Such gas leakage detector and controller system can be used to detect combustible and toxic gases. This type of system can be widely used in residents, hotels, industries and can be found at the spots such as an oil rig. It can be used in firefighting. A major future scope of this system could be including a mesh network topology to monitor all the units with such systems in large industries.

Project Implementation Method

Functional Units

            Following are the main functional units of the entire system that will enable the system to perform without taking any physical constraint into consideration:

Module Design

          As show in the figure 2-3, the model is designed on breadboard and project has several devices such as microcontroller, diodes, resistor, transistor, capacitor. Proteus gave us many advantages to minimize the number of wires and connections for each component. Also, Proteus helped us to complete circuit in fully operational form. In addition, we were also able to test our circuit on proteus using its simulation feature to make sure our all connections are exactly right. Once we got satisfied with the simulation of circuit, only then we started the soldering of our components.

Benefits of the Project

Such gas leakage detector and controller system can be used to detect combustible and toxic gases. Technical Details of Final Deliverable

This project “IoT Based Gas Leakage Detection and Automatic Valve Shutdown System” has been designed after an effort of months and it has many real time applications that can serve to a great extent. All the features of current system have been tested again and again and are fully functional. All the milestones that were set in this project have been achieved successfully. The product is ready to serve both in industrial and residential sector. The product has been made safe from each and every perspective.

            This is a low-cost, low power, lightweight, portable, safe, user friendly, efficient, multi featured and simple system device for detecting gas. Gas leakage detection will not only provide us with significance in the health department but it will also lead to raise our economy, because when gas leaks it not only contaminates the atmosphere but also wastage of gases will hurt our economy. The proposed system will cost only PKR 10,000 which is easily affordable even for poor people. In the open literatures it is noticed that much work has not been done for a smart gas detection system. In future, more advanced features will be integrated with this

system which will provide users with more safety and relaxation. The proliferation of handheld

devices have led to developments in the field of smart gas sensors, which has considerably widened

their scope of application. The need for ensuring safety in workplaces is expected to be the key

driving force for the market over the coming years
