IoT BASED GAS EMISSION MONITORING SYSTEM OF BRICK KILN FACTORY
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryManufacturing of Bricks is one of the growing industrial sector in many countries like China, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. Brick kiln are commonly used for the construction in Pakistan. There is different quality of brick kiln prepared in Punjab province. As Pakistan in developing countries so there is no use of technology for the preparation of brick kiln that indicate the lack of pollution control measures. The fired clay brick is one of the most widely recognized structure materials utilized broadly. Roughly 1.5 trillion mud bricks are delivered every year, 87% of which are made in Asia. The greater part of the world’s bricks is terminated in little scale kilns that consume coal or biomass without contamination controls. Discharges of particulate issue and vaporous toxins influence the respiratory health of on location laborers and can lower nearby air quality. Hardly any estimations of dark carbon from brick kilns have been directed. Brick kilns speak to a wide cluster of advancements that produce bricks from clay. The brick kiln emission is including gases like Sulphur oxide (SO), Nitrogen oxides (NO), particulate pollutants. The air quality index calculated, and sites show that the high pollutants are present in the air that effect the human health. To monitor the gases emission which makes air pollutants and temperature in brick kiln factory relevant sensors are suggested.
Project ObjectivesObjectives are
1. Quality assurance
2. Environment (Air) monitoring
3.Automation in the brick industry
Market for the clay bricks exist nearly in everywhere throughout the world. Financial experts can discover request of bricks round the year. Along these outlines, Clay Bricks Manufacturing Unit can be built up at any time of the year. We are targeting the industries which use old technologies for making bricks. Expected potential customers are given below:
- Owners of industry
- Environment Protection Department (EPD)
- UN Environment Programme (UNEP)
For the past few decades, brick is made from conventional method that are causing air pollution, last year government banned many brick factories. But this is not an efficient solution. Bricks are needed for construction purposes. Rather, we should propose the solution which will not affect the production and save environment.
We are gathering data from different brick kiln factories and gases are emitting out of chimney. Every gas has the range at which it is not dangerous for the environment. If it exceeds that range, then we should have to take measures accordingly. No one has proposed this solution before, rather people are working on air quality monitoring but not specifically brick industry. For example, oxides form at high temperature. The final year outcome will be a module that can detect harmful cases and inform you at distant places. Module will contain different sensors like NOx, Sox. IoT based module (It will collect data of factory and send it to host). We will probably buy a cloud for storing data.
Benefits of the ProjectIn our project we maintain the temperature of chimney and monitor different gases present in it. By maintain the temperature quality of bricks improve and by monitor the gases we improve the quality of smoke in chimney that cause no pollution in surrounding. Moreover, by maintaining these things the health of the workers in brick kiln is also not affected.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableWe have designed an IoT device which detects harmful gases like carbon monoxide, Oxides of Sulphur and nitrogen and methane. It also measures temperature inside the chimney of brick kiln factory. Device measures the temperature and sensors give voltages which further converted into ppm (parts per million) scale. Live data of sensors uploaded on Google firebase, an online data base. Device needs 3.3-5 volts to operate. For resolving power issue device is supported by two lithium ion batteries. We are using ESP32 module which has the feature of connecting with Wi-Fi and give us real-time data. Furthermore we have designed an application for our project which store run time data and give alerts about sensor values which are exceeding heath index.
