Sleep disorders affect an individual's health and performance. The most prevalent form of sleep disorder is Sleep Apnea. It is a condition characterized by abnormal breathing while sleeping since the person with this disorder does not take in enough oxygen and his/her breathing stops for a short period of time. It is estimated to affect about 1 billion of the world's 7.3 billion people between the ages of 30 and 69. It can be diagnosed by Polysomnography (PSG) which is very expensive, inconvenient, and time-consuming. The cost of Polysomnography ranges from $943 to $2605. The purpose of this study is to design and develop a cost-effective, convenient, wireless, and low-power device which would assist in the detection and prediction of Sleep Apnea.
Project Objectives- To develop a detection device for patients having sleep disorder at home.
- To design cost effective device so that it can be used by the patients at home.
- To send data wirelessly and to generate alerts if disease is detected.
Data collected using sensors such as oximeter and accelerometer etc. would be used to sense values of SPO2, heart rate, movements of the body etc. Data processing would be done and compared with threshold based upon which Sleep Apnea would be detected and an alert would be generated.
Benefits of the ProjectTo provide a cost-effective, convenient, wireless, and low-power device that would assist in the detection and prediction of Sleep Apnea at home.
