In this project "IoT Based Smart Parking System" we want to resolves many issues related to time and hasseling in parking. Now a days people waste their time while finding the parking area to park their vehicles but most of the time they could not find it and they only waste their time and fuel.

The project is designed in such a way that we collect the information about the presence of a vehicle in the parking slot and also find the empty slots with the help of ultrasonic sensor and then send that information to cloud with the help of NODMCU ESP8266 through a WiFi connection and display on a web application. By using the web app, people can easily find the empty parking slot and they can also reserve the parking slot for their vehicles too. In this way, people will save their time and fuel and can park their vehicles in a smart way.

Project Objectives

The main objectives of our project are:

  1. To design a web/mobile app to find and reserve the empty parking slot
  2. To display the status of empty and filled parking slot in LCD for walk-in users.
  3. To control the parking slot barriers through a servo motor.
  4. To get data from proximity sensor though ESP8266 and send it to cloud using Wi-Fi module.
  5. To automatically update the status of parking slots over the internet.
Project Implementation Method

We are designing this project for a paid parking space. The parking space is divided in two categories.

  1. Dedicated Parking Slots
  2. Common Parking Slots

The dedicated parking slots can only be reserved online whereas the common parking slots can be reserved online or after reaching the entry point of parking facility.

The status of entire parking facility (free and empty slots) will be displayed and updated in a web application in real time by using the ultrasonic sensors. The user will chose a category for parking, in case of dedicated parking slot, he/she will be given a slot number and for common parking category only the slot reservation message will be received by the user. Whenever a user reserve a slot online a timer will start and he/she has to reach the parking facility within the specified time, say in 10 minutes. If the user fails to reach there in time, then the slot will be released and can be assinged to any other user. 

When a user reaches at the entrance of the parking facility he/she can see the status on a LCD as well. If he/she has not reserved the slot before, he can reserve the slot there, then he/she will be given a RFID card to operate the slot barrier. After the parking or removal of each car, the web app will be updated.

Overall we are controlling the parking system through the internet using the free cloud, Ultrasonic proximity sensors, ESP8266 and a Wi-Fi module.

Benefits of the Project
  1. Efficient use of parking facility.
  2. It will reduce the time required  to find the empty slots for parking.
  3. It will reduce the fuel cost that people waste while searching the empty parking slots.
Technical Details of Final Deliverable

In this smart parking system, firstly user will be able to reserve the parking slot in advance, if the
slot is available, or he can also approach the parking on the spot. The data will be automatically
updated on the cloud (As the vehicle enters the parking, the sensor will detect and update the
availability of a number of empty slots) and will be shown on the mobile app and LCD Display. We
are using proximity sensors, two Keypads at parking slots, and two barriers at parking slots.
