Livestock has a value of $1.4 trillion as global asset, where it supports livelihoods for 600 million families of small household globally. According to UNDP predictions, world population will reach 9.5 billion by 2050, and the global requirement for the animal products (e.g. milk, dairy products, meat) will increase by 70%. With such drastic changes in population and requirement different artificial technologies are employed to increase the production of the agriculture and livestock. Moreover, Pakistan being an agriculturally based economic country largely depends on the livestock for its food production.
Project ObjectivesWith advancements in the field of IoT, data collection, analysis and Machine learning the concept of smart cities has augmented significantly. Our solution inscribes all of these technologies and consolidates a greater number of data attributes, including numerical and visual, that can efficiently monitor the livestock.
It will reshape livestock monitoring by providing an indigenous and intelligent solution that will support farmers and the agricultural industry to enhance animal productivity. The objective is to provide useful information regarding the health and physiology of an animal for increasing production and contributing significantly in animal healthcare. Moreover, many diseases are transferred from animals to humans, so a predictive analysis with real-time monitoring of herds will alleviate the harmful effects of infectious outbreaks by providing cost-effective diagnostic methods.
Project Implementation MethodWe propose a sustainable idea of a tech-based Smart-livestock system for managing and real-time monitoring, where the health status and yield of different animals can be monitored, so that prominent actions can be taken against problematic factors.
Technological advancements make the development of an automated livestock health monitoring system practicable. To constantly track and measure the physiological parameters, a multi sensor board can be fashioned in the form of a non-invasive wearable collar using strap belts. The data collected from this collar device will be sent to a web portal for real time data monitoring and analysis.
Machine learning and advanced analytics techniques will be applied to extract meaningful insights from collected data. This would help us identify patterns and correlation in animal activity levels, eating habits and medical conditions, which would eventually help us classify the health of the animal and predict certain diseases. Besides this, IP cameras will be mounted on suitable front and side locations of the farm. Computer vision techniques coupled with trained deep learning networks will help detect common animal behaviours and postures. Contributing to the sensor collected data, these factors will further enhance the accuracy of the predicted health status. A web or mobile application will be used to design an interface that shows the necessary details as per the farmers major requirements. Thus, a cost effective, intelligent, and indigenous predictive model will be developed to forecast animal health and productivity.

The final deliverable includes a Product as a service and a software as a service. The product basically includes the hardware part of whereas software part includes the mobile app and cloud services for real time monitoring.
To track animal health, a non-invasive wearable collar (mobile) and a fixed node is used. The collected data from the nodes is sent to server for real-time monitoring and analysis. So, the hardware portion includes a fixed node installed along with a non-invasive collar mounted on animal's body.
In software portion, data is processed and analyzed with the help of Machine learning algorithms. Moreover, the cloud portal will also be available to partner veterinarians, who will provide a great deal of insight regarding animal's health by visualizing real-time data and behavior.
