Installation of solar power based traffic signal system in hyderabad
Traffic management is a major issue in urban cities. With an increase in automobiles traffic management is becoming more difficult and in developing countries like Pakistan where load shedding and high electricity cost is major issues. So, in this scenario, we must introduce a system which should be uninterrupted and self-sustained with low maintenance and running cost. Solar power is a sole source available in an adequate amount and its unit cost is extremely low. So solar power is the best source to run a traffic control system at day and provide a reservoir of energy at night for continuous running without any interruption. we are planning to develop a solar power-based traffic control system which will be isolated from any external impact like load shedding and its running should be very low.it can be easily transported and it will be easy to install, and its resources and their components should be easily available.
our final year project is 8- 9 feet tall 4-way traffic signal system which is programmed using Arduino Uno and interface it with our circuit using relays. The power source that we are providing is solar power which is used to run our system and charge our battery at day and at night the energy is harvested from the battery and utilized as a power source for our system. Our main objective is to introduce a traffic control system In Hyderabad that will be cheap as compared to the existing model and should be self-sustained. Hyderabad has many spots where the traffic signal is mandatory but due to huge installation and running costs. The government isn't considering them in their schemes. Road safety is a major concern and our project's main concern is road safety and renewable energy.
Our main objective is to develop a solar power traffic control system that will be cost-efficient and it’s running, and maintenance will be very low and should easy to install and doesn't requires any expertise to hand. and try to introduce a clean and efficient source of energy for the modern problem
The core objectives that we are going to achieve are.
Our project is a solar power-based traffic control system. For That, first, we design our electronic circuitry on proteus after that we will program our microcontroller(Arduino UNO) using Arduino IDE then we will test our program on a breadboard using jumper wire and LEDs after testing we will interface our Arduino UNO with an external circuit using relays afterward we will design a 3D model of our project. After designing we will fabricate the model according to the desired dimensions. After completing the fabrication process, we will install our circuitry in our model. When the model will be ready, we will install the solar panels through which we power our battery and traffic control system in the day and at night the charged battery will be our energy source to drive our system. After that, we retrieve data from our working model that will be further utilized in our project report and system analysis.
FLOW CHART
The main benefits of a solar power-based traffic control system are:
The final product that we are going to deliver is a 4-way traffic control system. our product is divided into 3 categories
1 fabricated model (structure)
2 electronic circuits
3 power sources
1. FABRICATED MODEL
Fabricated model is a steel structure of about 8 to 9 feet which will serve as a traffic control system model and serves as a housing for our traffic light and traffic control system circuits.
2. ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS:
Electronic circuits consist of the control system of our project in this we use Arduino Uno and program it through Software Arduino IDE after testing we interface it with our traffic lights using Relays. Traffic lights are power through the batteries.
3. POWER SOURCE:
We use solar panels as our energy source which is used to run our traffic control system and charge battery simultaneously and at night the battery will serve as an energy source. We are using two solar plates one is used to run the Traffic lights and the other is used to charge the battery in the daytime. we install a dc to dc converter between the solar panel and the battery that will protect our battery from excessive current.
