Project Summary

This research is based on wearable antennas, used in wireless communication and bio-medical systems, like military warfare, rescue, sports, entertainment and wearable computing. Wearable antennas play an important role in wireless body area network (WBAN) as wearable antennas are used within the context of WBAN. In WBAN wearable antennas support wireless communication, include in-body, on-body and off-body communication. The Industrial Scientific and Medical (ISM) band for WBAN is 2.40-2.48 and 5.725-5.875 GHz. In this research project we use conventional patch antenna design. Wearable antennas operate close to the body, so their performance (gain, frequency and efficiency) on free space is well but degraded when place on  human body, to overcome this some methods are used such as electromagnetic band-gap (EBG), composite right-left handed transmission line (CRLHTL) and high impedance surface (HIS) are used, they cover human body from antennas harmful radiation and enhance the antenna performance as gain 7.47-9.1 dBi, efficiency 71.8%, front to back (FBR) 10.8 dB and specific absorption rate (SAR) below limit.

Project Objectives

Our study has these three objectives that we want to achieve.
1. Optimization of antennas Impedance within ISM Band.
2. Low design profile for case of mounting.
3. Avoid potential Impact of radiation on human body.

Project Implementation Method

Literature review is carried out for gap formulation and objective are set then Creating  simulation scenarios in simulator. The project is being designed and simulated using the software HFSS. Latter stages also involves CST microwave studio. The reference design simulations are performed and novel feature in the simulation and improvement of the results.  After achieving the objectives along with optimized results.

Benefits of the Project

This study aims to deal all issues of wearable antenna, regarding health by keeping safety within limit because Wearable antennas omit omnidirectional high frequency radiation that cause serious issues on human health. It will find best possible way out to tackle with the problem of performance degradation because of coupling and wearable antennas are implement so close to human body so their gain, efficiency and resonant frequency are damaged and they not work properly. It also will suggest the new structure of wearable antennas that is user friendly, flexible, light weighted and having high bandwidth. It is novel design approach that give flexible and reliable results.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

An antenna system with periodic structure layer is designed and optimized for ISM band achieving dual or wideband resonances on the 2.40-2.48 and 5.725-5.875 GHz.
