Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryPractical knowledge is much more important than theoretical knowledge. Many students lack practical understanding when it comes to basic or induction motors. This is the reason why we have chosen this project to be made. The trainer box is consisting of monitoring and protection of various electrical motors such as phase sequence, phase failure, phase missing, under-voltage, over-voltage, over current, overload, and motor winding temperature. We have concluded this project on a note that this project will be highly beneficial for students who have troubles and difficulties while understanding the practical implementation of a protection system. This study can further be done by enhancing the capability of this trainer box by adding some more features in it like, temperature analysis and controlling, motor testing, light intensity checking, etc.
Project ObjectivesProtection of motors has become one of the most preferences of modern industries; most of the students despite having very strong knowledge face many problems in the industry just because of the absence of motor protection testing schemes in the lab. The hardware of this project can be installed in a lab and the objective of the project is to provide a platform where students can familiarize themselves practically with these schemes.
Project Implementation MethodThere are the following steps occur in the implementation of System.
- Documentation
- Plaining
- Selection of components for trainer
- Design the system
- Start the process of structure manufacturing
- Assemble the component selected in the structure manufactured
- Connection and wiring of all the components as per design.
- Testing
- Implementation of System in the lab.
The benefit of our project is to fulfill the following experiments according to motor protection.
- Phase failure protection of three-phase induction motor.
- Under/Over-voltage protection of three-phase induction motor.
- Phase sequence protection of three-phase induction motor.
- Over-temperature protection of three-phase induction motor.
- Overload protection of three-phase induction motor.
- Speed control of single-phase DC motor.
- Overload protection of single-phase DC motor.
The technical and final deliverable of the proposed project will consist of the following.
- our trainer will be used in universities (electrical lab) to propose the fulfillment of the experiments according to the motor protection system.
- the trainer is equipped with protection relays, pushbuttons, meters, and a number of LEDs for monitoring the results and feedback.
