Project Area of Specialization Mechanical EngineeringProject SummaryThe idea of this project is basically inspired from user requirements to design and fabricate such wheelchair that patient can drive themselves and it can transform into bed when he/she wants to take rest and can be convertible into standing mode for medical therapies.
Project ObjectivesThis project is initially attempted by group of four students in batch 2015 of Mechanical Engineering department (Wah Engineering College, Wah Cantt ). There were a lot of drawbacks and deficiencies in that model. The objective of our group is to:
- improve the structural design of wheelchair
- enhance its mobility in terms of forward, reverse, right and left movement
- enhance control of different postures provided
- The joystick control connected to Ardino UNO and other control circuits moves in four axis:
- Upward: two drive motor movers drive wheels in forward direction
- Downwards: two drive motor movers drive wheels in reverse direction
- Right: wheelchair moves right side by caster wheels control
- Left: wheelchair moves left side by caster wheels contro
There are three control button on control panel (for bed, chair and standing modes) connected to the Arduino UNO and other control circuits used to control :
- backseat actuator
- two seat actuators
- footrest actuator
The benefits of the project are:
- The maneuverability of patient becomes much easier due to application of efficient control of 12VDC drive motors in wheelchair.
- It is very difficult for spinal cord injury patients to transfer from wheelchair to bed or vice versa, so for this purpose, the convertible bed mode is very helpful.
- For bed mode, comfortable headrest is provided.
- For chair mode, convenient handrests are provided.
- For medical purposes, this model can be converted into standing mode efficiently.
- The seatbelt is also provided for standing mode.
- The structural design is modeled on SOLIDWORKS modeling software.
- Also that model is analysed on ANSYS software.
- All the linkages, motors and bearings are designed using knowledge of Machine Design course.
