Project Title

identification of adulterant nature in liquids using optical sensor

Project Area of Specialization

Information & Communication Technology

Project Summary

As we all know the liquid food is a part of our daily life , it’s necessary to know about the ingredients of the liquid that we are consuming every day.

In 2018 , milk has been contaminated by urea or phenyl in India , which has caused multiple deaths among people.

A 2012 study conducted by the FSSAI across 33 states found that milk in world can be adulterated with diluted water, detergent, fat and even urea.

Therefore there must be technological initiative that can help to detect impurities in the liquid.

There must be a way to know about the liquids, our project can be helpful for this purpose.

In this project, we will create a prototype optical sensor that will use light principles to detect adulteration in liquids. The light source will emit continuous light, which will be detected by the sensor, and the information gained from this light will be used to determine the purity of the liquid. We'll calculate the reflectance rate of the sample that will be observed. To produce different wavelengths, different monochromatic light colours will be needed. The intensity of light flowing through the liquid sample is measured for each wavelength. The reflection rates of the various liquids varied, as do the concentrations of the various adulterants. The reflection spectra of that particular liquid will be measured and calculated based on fluctuations in liquid reflection.

Figure 01: shows that the reflected signals from the different liquids detected by sensor and sensor analyze the intensity of reflected light and calculate the reflectance rate of the every liquid sample that will be observed.

Figure 02: shows the expected result of project from liquids

Project Objectives

Project Implementation Method

  • We will find the reflection from raw materials then we will add some impurities in the liquids and check its reflection.
  • Then we will analyze the behavior of both reflected lights and check their differences.
  • We have find the reflected light in terms of LUX at different wavelengths using different liquids. Reflectance ( R ) = reflected power / incident power = Gr(y) / Gi (y)

Benefits of the Project

Benefits

Death rate is increasing day by day by consumption of harmful adulteration in food. So, this project can be helpful to consume healthy liquids

Health Benefits

  • Many adulterants are consumeable . i.e. if honey is added in milk it is still consumeable .But if any harmful material has been used in its making that could be very unhealthy for us.
  • We will be able to consume pure liquids i.e. milk.

Industrial Benefits

  • We can check the quality of fuel which is being used in automobiles.

Feasibilty Benefits

  • It's feasible for an individual to detect adulterant's nature through this project , rather than purchasing expensive gadgets.

Future benefits:

  • Chemical laboratories can use the project.
  • Youth can use it for research purpose
