Project Summary

Pakistan is an underdeveloped country and it faces many challenges which include poverty, food insecurity. One of the causes of food insecurity is food wastage. The upper and middle class of our society wastes a lot of food which could be consumed in many ways. If this cycle continued it can cause, people to die in hunger, and people go for suicide because they can’t afford the food.

According to WFP 931 million tons of food is wasted in the world per year [1]. 400 tons can be reused [1]. 36 million tons per year of food wasted in only Pakistan, in which around 12 million tons can be eaten by other hungry/needy people (reused) [1]. It is around 40% of overall cooked food. Only in Islamabad city, 870 kg of food per day is wasted [2]. At,17% of untouched food was wasted from which 7% can be easily reused.12 million tons per year can be reused in Pakistan. 1 million tons in a month and 33 thousand tons per day [3]. If we secure and deliver 1/4 of the 12 million, it is 3 million tons of food per year. Like many other applications working all over the world to manage the uneaten leftover meals, we will be putting our efforts to stop food wastage by developing a mobile or web application named “HungerCare” on which different restaurants, wedding halls, and cafeterias will be registered and agreed to give their leftover food which can be processed and delivered to the needy people.

Project Objectives

• To develop a mobile app for distributing over left food smoothly.
• To deliver food to hungry, poor, and needy people easily through the internet.
• To ensure transparency in the food distribution throughout the whole process.
• To reduce the impacts of malnutrition on food scarcity areas which would be possible through our app.

HungerCare will be a communication app that will connect different restaurants, wedding halls, cafeterias, and homes with a mission to feed the needy.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

We will deliver a full-fledged hybrid mobile app made with React native.
