The proposed project consists of a Vertical Axis wind turbine and solar power system. Type of turbine used is a vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT), a turbine having a vertical shaft with blades surrounding it, is installed in the mid-way of the highway. When the vehicles move from both incoming and outgoing sides of highway they tend to move the turbine, the turbine connected to the DC generator thus operates generator producing the electrical energy which can be stored in battery banks, light up the highway street lights and signs, provide electricity to small village nearby or can be connected to the grid using an inverter.
To make the system more reliable and provide continual supply the solar system is also connected to the above-proposed system and makes it a hybrid system.
Following are the Project objectives:
Wind-solar hybrid power output is given to the battery through a charge controller. From the battery, there are two ways provided:
1) dc power directly to the load
2) inverter to convert DC to AC then AC power provided to load. A microcontroller used to control the functions of each component.
?VAWT captures maximum possible wind energy as installed where heavy traffic drives it to generate power.
?Several combinations of the project across complete highway strip are installed to produce a huge amount of power.
?Wind-solar hybrid streetlight is a high-tech environmentally friendly product.
?It uses and produces power by itself, it’s only a one-time investment and long-time benefit.
?Can be connected to the grid or provide power to nearby areas.
?Follows SDG.
A DC generator is connected to the Vertical axis wind turbine generating DC electrical energy which is then combined with the DC electrical energy generated by Solar panels mounted on top of the turbine. Hybrid power is provided to the battery via a charge controller and is also provided to the inverter to convert it to AC then provided to the load. All the operations are controlled by a microcontroller.
