The number of elderly people in Pakistan is growing by 15 million in 60 years which is 7% of the country's population and is expected to reach more than 40 million by 2050. In addition At least 20 million people in Pakistan have a disability, making up 10 percent of the country's population every year. Elder people and patients with various disabilities face unique challenges of performing daily tasks at home, in hospitals, and in many other settings. They often need other’s help or even switch to a assisted living facility in addition, people who cannot speak due to sudden stroke or health hazard or perhaps already deaf have difficulty communicating with other family members at home, especially by providing daily necessities. Another cost-related problem identified in the study states that people with disabilities who are referred to their homes cannot live comfortably and need a caretakers (Nurse at home or Hospitals) to help the patient with various home-based tasks. The cost of a caretaker is about 2000-3000 per month, Which is very expensive. In solution of this problem mentioned in problem statement, a computer-based hand recognition system can be developed to help adults cope with daily tasks on their own. It will provide them with a 24-hour operating system to help them complete their tasks or needs with a hand gesture. As each hand sign has represents a unique activity. As our targeted audience consist of elders and disable patients l, therefore we add a feature in which they can set reminder for their medicines. The application will be specified and provide knowledge about hand gesture recognition system. This solution can be used in hospitals, offices and homes etc.
Project ObjectivesObjectives:
- The main objective of this solution is to help patients, elders and disable peoples in performing day-to-day activities by themselves.
- This solution will help in generating alarms different dangerous situations in various places such as bank.
- This solution will increase self-motivation in patients, elders and disable peoples as they carry their activities by themselves
- This solution will reduces the cost of caretakers.
- This solution is customizable and can be used anywhere.
In order to implement, we use Scrum methodolgy for this project, because it is an ittrative approch. This method help's us to test more dataset and improve accruacy ittrativatily and intergate all the modules of the project untill they fit each other.
Benefits of the ProjectBenefits:
- Elder and disable people can use this solution to perform different tasks which they might not be able to perform without the help of other people.
- People in different offices like banks, hospitals, and offices etc. can use this solution to generate alarms in dangerous situations.
- Users like patients can set reminder for medicine using the application.
1. Project Deliverables for 7th semester:
- Dataset: Firstly, we will collect dataset of hand gestures. The dataset shall contain pictures of specific signs for specific function.
- Researching Different Machine Learning algorithms: After collecting dataset we will study different Machine learning algorithm and then select that will fit and work accurately according to our solution requirements
- Train and test Model: after selecting model we will train it with dataset. We will try to train as much dataset as we can
- App Design: Make design of our app
