The rapid improvement in smartphone technology has produced many medical applications. Cellular phones now offer several advantages over desktop or laptop computers in tele-monitoring applications like individual’s fitness, instant diagnosing and systems for monitoring an individual’s medical conditions. Nowadays there are many ways to measure the Heart Rate, Blood Pressure and Body Temperature. They vary from taking pulse manually to using special devices such as pulse oximeter, sphygmomanometer, and thermometer and so on. One more way of the Heart Rate, Blood Pressure and Body Temperature measuring is using mobile phone’s on-board camera. Theoretically, any body part can be used to measure Heart Rate, Blood Pressure and Body Temperature, although fingertips are commonly used because when our heart pushes blood out then most of the blood goes to our fingers. This fundamental technique of measuring these vital signs through smartphone applications is based on image or video processing. Such approach allows user of a mobile phone to find out his/her vital signs without having to buy special devices like pulse oximeter.  Furthermore, these vital signs measuring using mobile phones camera does not require any special skills, like taking pulse manually does. The basic mechanism of Heart Rate, Blood Pressure and Body Temperature measurement using only smartphone cameras and compare the performance of some notable state of the art smartphone applications available for such purpose. The requirement for the vital signs measuring using mobile phone’s camera is just a phone with an on-board camera equipped with a flash (the quality of the camera does not matter) and a special application installed. After developing a health watcher app the results of all vital signs will share to health care person of the user via many applications like email but here our main focus is to share the results to a hardware device which we make that instantly indicate the health care person through buzzer and LED that the which user measure vital signs and what is the condition of the user after this they start instant communication about user health this communication occurred between mobile app and hardware device that health care person has to place it in office. The interfacing between mobile app and hardware device is done by Bluetooth module (Blue sirf gold) which share the results to Arduino Uno R3 and display some results to screen. In this we use Bluetooth module after succession of this in future we will move towards cloud computing.

Project Objectives

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate a proof of concept of the feasibility of obtaining vital signs in real time using a cell phone camera and no other sensors. Implementing a smartphone application to monitor vital signs (Heart Rate, Blood Pressure and Body Temperature) that do not require external sensors is a cheap and accessible solution for self-assessment health care. This application can potentially benefit many people as source of estimation for possible breathing or heart conditions over time. And this application assist workers and people having common sickness and we aim to give easy and fast environment to measure vital signs (Heart Rate, Blood Pressure and Body Temperature) and allow communication between user and his/her health care person at instant response. Health applications are becoming more popular day by day, and the use of technology along with these applications helps to improve the healthcare system.

Project Implementation Method

Our project is based on android mobile application, for that, we want to create an health care application which will measure person heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature through mobile phone camera and flash. After measurement of these vital signs person will able to share the results via email or hardware device. Why hardware device because just to get instant response from health care person or doctor and in this results shared to hardware device is to be done with the help of the Bluetooth module. Even after this, the person is not sure about it that the health care person has saw all readings or not so that we added a feedback system to get more instant experience with health care person.

In this we use Bluetooth module after succession of this project we move towards cloud computing instead of Bluetooth module and we implement more vital signs and more functionalities in application.

Benefits of the Project

The more we give facilitate people the more people get responsibilities about health care. If we talk about applications of health watcher, there are a bundle of applications but the Following are benefits of our application.

  1. Results: we want to make an application which will give accurate results like as a professionally medical equipment’s are used
  2. Saves extra expenditures: There is no need to buy people any special devices or any other equipment to measure the vital signs.
  3. Saves time: there is no need to go to the doctor just open an application share results with doctor and get some instant treatment.
  4. Here we didn’t use any sensor to measure.
  5. Our application will improve health care system.
  6. Our project will be appropriate  in routine environment with android mobile which carry everyone.
Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final product is the communication between health watcher application and hardware embedded device which contains feedback system that involves Bluetooth module, Arduino UNO, LCD display, LED, Buzzer provide the most advanced experience between application and hardware device. Here we don’t have to assemble anything between android mobile app and hardware device that is the message going through the air from Android to the Bluetooth modem.
