In this era of wireless communication, monitoring and controlling of any system like substation is the way towards perfection or achieving maximum efficiency. Substation is part of power system in which voltage is transformed for transmission, distribution, and switching. To ensure reliable operation in substation for continuous power supply, it is very essential to monitor and control parameters of substation by introducing automation level through mobile communication technology (GSM). Monitoring transmission parameters for faults and quick isolation of the system from faults helps to improve the efficiency of the power systems reliability. Current conventional method has its own limitations due to their reliance on technical team to carrying out visual inspection in order to identify any fault. The aim is to design system which continuously monitors the changes in transmission parameters such as voltage, current, temperature and frequency. Whenever they exceed predefined limits, send a text message to the concern person mobile number which was already programmed in Micro-controller through GSM and at the same instant operating the relay for protection.
In our project there are two ends, slave and master. At slave end the controller efficiently communicate with the different sensors installed for monitoring of substation’s parameters such as voltage, current and temperature. Controller send information of parameters to master end with specific delay. When parameters exceeds predefined values, controller take action by sending signal to ativate relay and also message from slave end is transmitted through GSM modem to master end . At master end there is centralized monitoring and this end can also inerupt manually when it desire like in case of switching load on feeder in under and over load condition. Parameters will display on LCD at both end and history of data will also maintained.
At the end, we will provide a prototype which has ability to control and monitor the substation parameters and also provide centrazied monitoring at remote end and complete simulation and PCB layout.
