Project Summary

As we know, nowadays the technology has changed the world and it is playing a major role in war and military activities so we have developed an idea which can spare lives of army and civilians and can be beneficial for Pakistan's Army.

So basically, our project is an IOT based Robot using machine learning with advanced features that can surely be helpful for our country's army. Structure wise we have decided to make a small military tank with a robotic hand and a gun connected to it which will be able to shoot the enemies by face recognition and weapon detection using image processing.

This robot can be operated from anywhere in the world due to its IOT feature and it is based on an advanced technology so it will take the decision whether to shoot the target or not. Basically, this would inform the higher authorities if any suspect detected with weapon and if it has any given instruction about any suspect to shoot him/her then it will shoot that person on head without any delay by face recognition techniques otherwise on suspect detection it will ask the authority to order him to take the decision because it can also be operated using mobile application as we usually do in games. These all operations are controlled by a controller which is interfaced with a camera module for image processing. 

The work on these devices in previous research is done but those were limited to only monitoring the surrounding with the camera connected to them, but this robot will be using the NVIDIA Jetson Nano controller along with camera module that will be used for the image processing. The beauty of this robot is of its machine learning feature which has high precision in terms of processing and speed.

This robot can be used in war field because this can also be controlled by an application through mobile phone so it will save many soldier’s being killed by the enemies. The world is working on such robots and as per the research US have such technology so that is why they are superior on others in terms of weapon technology, but we can also have this technology and it will be accomplished through our little research on it.

Project Objectives

Following are the objectives of the project:

  1. Face Recognition

Project Implementation Method

This project primarily is an IOT based robot. An arm is connected to the base of the tank to

 which a camera and a gun will be attached. Basically, it will recognize the person and will

detect the weapon by image processing with the help of camera module using machine learning. The camera will be interfaced to the controller NVIDIA Jetson Nano, which will be used as a master processor for its working. The proposed system will detect people and weapon using image processing and if any weapon or target is found it will send the detected data to the concerned authority then they will instruct the robot to shoot the target or not, if they will order the robot to shoot the suspect it will trigger the gun (the triggering will be set through the servo motor and the gun will be triggered to shoot the suspect on the spot).

Project methodology is divided into three parts:

1.Hardware Development:

The hardware of the system contains the master processor as NVIDIA Jetson nano, camera module and servo motors for its movement. The development of the project is discussed below.

  1. Tank Designing:

In this part the robot infrastructure will be designed and as per the geometry of robot it

has a tank shaped body containing an arm to hold the gun.

  1. Gun placement:

The gun will be placed on the arm of the tank attached to the base of the tank. The gun

360-degree movement will be controlled by a servomotor and its triggering is also controlled by another servo motor to shoot the target or not.

  1. Camera and lens placement:

The Camera and lens will be placed on the arm of the robot along with the gun for

capturing the video. Lens is used with camera for focusing on the objects.

  1. Video capturing:

Video capturing will be operated through the camera. The camera module will be

capturing the surrounding and will be operated through the mobile app by the concerned authority.

  1. Object detection: 

From the acquired video frame, object detection will be performed, and we will detect

only people and weapons through TensorFlow machine learning algorithms using python programming language.

  1. Face recognition:

In this part detected person face will be recognized through image processing techniques

using machine learning algorithms.

  1. Taking action based on acquired results:

After recognition of person, if it is given any pre instruction to shoot him then the robot

will shoot him otherwise it will send the data to the concerned authority that the concerned person is detected, or a person carry any weapon is detected. After getting instructions from the concerned authority, it will perform its duties.

  1. Software Development:

In this part the software of the system will be designed which includes:

Mobile app development:

The mobile app will be developed using android studio to control the robot activities.

  1. System Integration:

In this part the hardware and software will be integrated together to perform the operations

properly. Fig. 1 represents the system integration.

Benefits of the Project

Robots have widely taken role in the field of military to reduce the human efforts and this robot is mainly designed to spare the lives of army in war field.

  • This project is a small prototype that can be used by military in war field.
  • It can monitor the surrounding and recognize a person.
  • It can detect the weapons also.
  • If any person is carrying weapon at some distance and it can target on the spot if it gets the instruction through the concerned authority.
  • This project will be having better processing speed because machine learning is used for image processing.
  • NVIDIA Jetson Nano controller makes the robot faster and more efficient.
  • The project has a potential to be a part of army war field.
  • It can be Operated through a Mobile Application remotely.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final deliverable product will contain,

  1. Hardware in the form of a robotic tank containing an arm on which a gun

  and camera module with lens will be placed.

  1. Software in the form of a mobile application which will be developed by

  android studio and will be integrated with hardware to control robot activities.
