GOODBYE PHOBIA
Project Area of Specialization Augmented and Virtual RealityProject SummaryMany people have some sort of Phobia and they want to treat them, for this, they usually go to see a therapist and the therapist then usually arranges therapy sessions for the patient. In these therapy sessions, most of the therapists across the globe are using Virtual Reality (VR) technology by showing 360-degree images for the treatment of Phobia and most specifically they use this for the treatment of “Acrophobia”. So, to make the therapy sessions more effective and immersive we came up with a solution and have proposed an idea in which we will create a VR mobile application consisting of immersive environments and all these environmental factors will be controlled in which the user can experience his/her fear for the treatment of his/her fear of heights that is “Acrophobia”. This immersive VR mobile application will be very beneficial for therapists in their therapy sessions as they can use this for the treatment of their patients and this way of treatment will surely yield better results.
The intended audience is those therapists who use VR technology for their therapy sessions as this VR mobile application will surely give much better results as compared to 360-degree images. This application will be used by therapists for their therapy sessions, there will be a heart rate sensor which will be used to control and monitor the heart-rate levels of their patients along with the progression of levels. This Application will help a lot of people in curing their phobias (level-by-level/stage-by-stage) and it is the perfect thing which they can use.
The number of levels we want to set for the treatment purpose will be set and integrated and the criteria for the advancement of levels will also be set, the objects and environment for the levels will be designed using both Blender and Unity 3D. Unity 3D will be used to create the whole VR application by integrating the levels designed, controlling the flow of the application, logic, menus, pause screens, time is taken to complete a level, in application options along with adding functionality and code which will deal with the physics factor and with the usability and functionality of the mobile application, a heart sensor module will be made using Arduino UNO, Bluetooth module HC-05 and a heart rate sensor and this module will send data to the VR application so that the therapist and the mobile application can determine whether the patient should advance to a certain level or not.
Project ObjectivesThe GOODBYE PHOBIA project will meet the following objectives:
- We will design the objects and the environment to be used in VR application by using Blender.
- We will create a Heart-rate sensor module with the combination of Arduino UNO, Pulse sensor and a HC-05 Bluetooth Sensor.
- The environment made in Blender would be used in Unity 3D.
- The data fetched from Heart-rate sensor would be sent to the mobile VR application.
- The structure and order of the levels will be set
- Data would be saved of the person who is using the app and whenever the person will open, the progress won’t be lost.
- Fully functional mobile application
3D Models
In this sub-project, the main work being carried out by us is of designing the environment variables, objects, and other environmental factors that exist in the environment such as bridges, landscapes, buildings, etc.
Heart-rate sensor module
In this sub-project, the creation of a Heart-rate sensor is carried out. The Creation of the Heart-rate sensor module is done with the combination of Arduino UNO, Pulse Sensor, and an HC-05 Bluetooth Sensor, and the coding is carried out using the Arduino IDE. This module is critical for our project as it serves the purpose of sending heart rate data to our VR application and this data is critical in determining the progression of levels in the application.
Integration with Unity 3D
In this sub-project, the different environment variables designed by us in Blender are exported to Unity so that these environment variables can be used in the application. Also, the designing of some environment variables is done in Unity as well.???????
Data Fetching
In this sub-project, the integration of the heart rate sensor module will be done with the mobile VR application as the data from the heart rate sensor module will be sent to the application, and the decision of progression of levels in the application will be carried out.
??????? Structure of Levels
The sequence of levels will be set and would be integrated and the person could access any previous level after unlocking more levels. The logic for unlocking a level after the completion of a certain level and the integration of levels is carried out in this sub-project.
??????? Fully Functional Mobile Application
This is the last sub-project in this all the levels would be integrated and will be playable, heart rate sensor data will be sent as well. Some other factors will be included as well such as time spent on a certain level, number of unlocked levels, starting of levels, in application options. In short, the whole application will act as a fully functional mobile VR application.
Benefits of the Project- This Application will be used by therapists for their therapy sessions they’ll be using the heart-rate sensor designed by us (using Arduino and heart rate sensor) which will allow them to monitor their patient's heart rate and make a decision also it will control the progression of levels.
- The main features of this project are:
- Easily available to the therapists in Pakistan
- Cheap way for therapists for the treatment of phobia by using this application in their therapy sessions as the cost of the whole application is not much expensive.
- The cost of a VR headset is also cheap nowadays.
- Therapists will have a proper heart rate sensor module integrated with a VR application which they will be used for treatment purposes
- This Application will help a lot of people in curing their phobias (level-by-level/stage-by-stage) and for its intended users, it is the perfect thing which they can use.
- Project Deliverable 1: 3D models of the virtual environment:
- An environment of Level-by-level Stages (a few) would be designed in Blender.
- Product Deliverable 1: Heart-rate sensor module: Creation of Heart-rate sensor module with the combination of Arduino UNO, Pulse Sensor and a HC-05 Bluetooth Sensor.
- Project Deliverable 2: The environment made in Blender would be integrated with Unity 3D.
- Project Deliverable 3: The data fetched from the Heart-rate sensor would be sent to the Mobile VR application.
- Project Deliverable 4: The structure of the level-by-level stages (all stages) would be integrated and the person could access any previous level after unlocking more.
