Fridge Compressor Turned Into Capable Little Four-Stroke Engine

1. Introduction :- When the compressor starts, its pump draws in the cold refrigerant gas from the evaporator (leftover from the last cycle). It is then the compressor's job to heat up the gas. A motor powers this function, increasing the gas's temperature by compressing it.

Project Summary

1. Introduction :-

When the compressor starts, its pump draws in the cold refrigerant gas from the evaporator (leftover from the last cycle). It is then the compressor's job to heat up the gas. A motor powers this function, increasing the gas's temperature by compressing it.

Project Objectives

Working Model :-
The best way to tell if something has gone wrong with the compressor is to pull the fridge slightly out from the wall and listen closely. If the motor is running with a slight humming sound but the temperature is above what its normal range should be, then it's likely there could be a problem with the compressor.

The three pins revealed are marked “S”, “C” and “R” for Run, Common and Start winding pins.

6. Working and Maintenance :-

Where the refrigerant is essential for the cooling properties of a refrigeration system, the refrigeration oil is crucial for the correct functioning of the compressor. Lubricants for refrigeration compressors reduce friction, prevent wear and act as a seal between the high and low pressure sides.

Uses and Application :-
The compressor is the "heart" of a refrigerator. It circulates the refrigerant throughout the system and adds pressure to the warm part of the circuit, and makes the refrigerant hot.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

9. Modification :-
Typical fridge compressors are 100 - 300 watt units, deliver 0.7 - 1 CFM of air and can reach pressures over 500 psi.
