Project Summary

The proposed Food365 project is a mobile and a cross platform application that will allow faster, and efficient communication between customers, waiters and cooks in the domain of restaurant and food industry, and monitor the food wastage. The application can be extended to monitor the kitchen inventory and include pre–booking. The main users of this application are small to medium scale restaurants. The application will work on mobile devices of the staff of restaurants. The application will inform the waiter of the available/free tables at a restaurant, and predict the approximate waiting time that will be needed to free up the tables taking into consideration different parameters such as average cooking time, average eating time, average serving time, etc. For the purpose of MVP, the project will be considering utilizing Queuing Algorithms to find the waiting time. Furthermore, once a table is allotted to customers, they can place their orders digitally via the app. The app will eliminate the need for traditional order placement. The app will collect all the details of order placed, and also provide a pictorial representation of the order to the customer. Once an order is placed, the cooking department is notified immediately. This will reduce the waiting time for order placement, and will allow to maintain integrity of the order. Once the order is cooked, the waiters will be notified to serve it, and it will remove the guesswork and allow waiters to be engaged on other tasks. The app will generate bills of the customer orders which can be further paid via different payment methods. The application may also focus on the inventory management of the restaurants by suggesting which inventory is close to expiry, or which product is low on availability. The inventory can also be customized depending on the suggestion of application on different factors such as weekends, popular menu items, holiday favourites or seasonal favourites. The application also aligns with the End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture goal of the UN by monitoring the wastage of food in a restaurant, and suggesting ways to reduce the food wastage.

Project Objectives

The objectives of Food365 project are following;

1. To reduce the communication barriers between waiters, customers and cooks in a restaurant.

2. Decreasing waiting time inside a restaurant and providing digital assistance to place orders.

3. To make the process of order placement and serving easy by reducing time and increasing integrity.

4. Reducing food wastage and suggesting ways to reduce food wastage in a restaurant.

5. Management of the restaurant's inventory.

Project Implementation Method

For the creation of this project, we will start by creating a focused scope, then we will be moving forward to gathering requirements, creating the design and documents and getting it approved by the stakeholders involved. With that done, the procedure of coding and testing will begin, and then the implementation of the project will be carried out.

The first month will be for the research and requirement gathering. Then the wireframing and prototyping was carried out. From the third month developemnt of the project was started which is currently ongoing. 

Benefits of the Project

Since the scope of this product is Pakistan at the moment therefore it will help in making faster, and efficient orders and help in saving time. It will bridge the gap between waiters/kitchen staff and the billing department with the customers. It will help in inventory management and provide a solution to the food wastage. The overall benefit of this will be to the restaurants as the application will help them in better management, and the food industry will also benefit by less wastage.

Another benefit will be the ability to reduce the labor work and cost asscoiated with it. Will update the menu items or any small changes easily. The application will save time and help in better management of the customers and order servings. 

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final deliverable is a mobile appplication built using Flutter and Firebase that will be used by the Restuarant Management. It will have an waiter POV through which the waiter will be notiifed that an order is ready to be served. From the Mangers pov he will be able to manage the inventory and add/delete/update any items from the item lists easily.

The cook Pov will allow the chef to receive orders directly from customers and start preparing and also be able to view the pending orders and notfiy waiter when a meal is cooked thus saving time. 

The customers pov , the customer will be able to place an order without having to call the waiter. 

The estimated time for the order to be served will also be shown.
