Career promotion is considered to be a blessing by an employee serving in an organization.  However, getting this milestone is not an easy task due to the several factors. For example, employee have to fulfill certain requirements for promotion such as the required experience and knowledge level before considered for promotion. Particularly, getting promotion in a university is a challenging task, as there is no automated mechanism exist that who is eligible and who is not for the particular position. Until and unless the employee i.e. faculty inform the administration by submitting the application for a particular position. 

On the other hand, students whom are also the stakeholders of university are confronting some academic challenges. For example, Storing the data of the courses they have taken or sharing it with their junior fellows.

Therefore, the aim of this project is to develop an Electronic portfolio for employees’ career promotion and student services. The purpose behind this project is to facilitate faculty and staff in career promotion and providing services to students. The salient feature of this project is to enable the employee as well as the organization to know that whom is eligible for promotion. Let’s say if lecturer wants to be promoted to an Assistant professor designation, then the lecturer must have 3 years of experience and 4 research publications. The lecturer will be able to update the e-portfolio with his/her achievements. When the criteria of assistant professor will be met. The concerned lecturer will get to know automatically about his eligibility, and the management of university will also get automatic intimation. Thus, developing an automatic bond between the faculty and administration. In other words, this aspect of the portfolio can be also be declared as personal file of an employee, where all the correspondence between the employee and management can be stored, and will be transparently visible to both.

The second aspect of this project is providing services to student. E-portfolio can be used by each student for storing materials, assignments, quizzes, notes of their previous years or semesters  as well as sharing material with an outside audience, storing cassettes (audio and video), research papers, work samples, pictures (photos) of work done, checklists and self-analysis showing attainment of an objective.

Project Objectives

• To design a web-based system with login and sign up facility.
• Design an E-portfolio for employee career promotion on the basis of specific requirement of each employee category.
• Student will upload, edit, store and share data by using “roll based access mechanism” (only the relevant data will show to the user of specified field by personalization technique.
• Will serve as user’s personal file.

Project Implementation Method

There are three main modules in this system

• Admin module
• Employee module
• Student Module

The interface of the system will be design in HTML, CSS and JAVASCRIPT.  Adobe photoshop use for designing logo of the system.

Backend coding is done using PHP and MYSQL as a database.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final deliverable of “Electronic Portfolio for university employee career promotion and student services” is website along with documentation manual having all the technical details of website. It will be developed in Visual code studio. The website will be compatible with all the versions of browsers.
