Electromagnetic Coilgun
Electromagnetic launchers are revolutionizing the fields of weaponry and space missions. The basis of this project is to design and implement an Electromagnetic coil-gun using a 9volt battery. This project carries out the systematic quality of Coilguns as handy-gun with a small sized bullet. A coil-gun used magnetic force propellant with periodic input is kind of complicated to model. It involves time variable inductance and capacitance, a projectile in motion and field of force that changes with the motion of projectile inside the coil-barrel. Moreover, it is further affected by many different physical parameters. Coil gun was implemented using the split coils technique to lower the effect of inductance on the shape of the current pulse. The electromagnetic coil-guns model was simulated using MATLAB and PSpice. A coper-wire of 19 AWG and projectile of mild-steel material with diameter and length equal to the coil was used. The projectile attains Kinetic Energy by using the bank of a capacitor of 3400uF having a charging voltage of about 400-V and stored Electrical capacitive energy of 272J. Unlike the previous works, this project focuses on generating 400 DC volts from the 9volt battery using a boost converter. Implementation of a speed measuring screen for finding the accurate speed of the projectile is also a part of the project.
The goal of this project is to develop a modified design for a single stage 240-J Reluctance type coil-gun for a 30-mm in length, 8-mm in diameter, 10gram bullet with high efficiency and speed. The following objectives were set to achieve this goal.
This project covers the design of an improved Reluctance-type Coilgun with a modified LC-circuit. A conventional Coilgun (with a capacitor bank based pulse generator) was also designed for reference comparison.

A wide range of options was available in choosing coil and bullet dimensions and geometry
Free-wheeling diodes need to be connected in the circuit as there is a chance of backflow of current due to the high value of inductances attached
Charger circuit simply has electrical devices like other diodes, capacitors, resistance, etc. that step down the ac provided then filters create the output smooth then resistance create output compatible with a device.

Our work is also based on the speed measurement device. It will measure the accurate speed of the bullet in real life.
