Electrical Load Control using Smart devices
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThis project is about controlling the electrical loads wirelessly using mobile, laptop or any smart device. In this project, we are introducing the smart control of heavy electrical loads anytime, anywhere in the world using Internet. We have studied and controlled the electricity of the entire building of our Engineering department of The Lahore Leads University. In this study, we have controlled all the floors of the building using one device. Such an automation includes the controlling of equipment in such a way that, any part of the building could be controlled individually and also there is a facility of turning ON and OFF all of them at the same time.
There are two by-pass methods also installed with the system. One is the manual bypass of the system and other is bypass of Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. The later can be used where Wi-Fi signals are not present. The system can be turned ON and OFF using Blue-tooth within prescribed Blue-tooth range.
Project ObjectivesThe objective of this project is to implement a low cost , reliable and scalable home automation system that can be used to remotely turn ON or OFF Electrical loads using a web browser on mobile, laptop or any smart device. This will enable use to achieve hardware simplicity, low cost controlling and switching of equipment from any device to toggle the switch state.
The system will also shows the present state of the system.
Project Implementation MethodImplementation of the project has passed throught following phases:
Firstly, we have prepared the microcontroller and Wifi board that works on logic mobile commands. after this we have controlled the small loads using the board. The board consist of Arduino microcontroller, Esp 8266 Node MCU wifi module, fuses, Relay modules and cconnectors.
Secondly, we have made the hardware Assembly of the project. in hardware we have hanged a distribution panel and intstalled contactors and breakers in it. then we have connected the contactors parallely with the university load.
After this we have made a bluetooth board arrangement that is synchroinized the wifi module board.
After this we connected the assembled panel with the bluetooth and wifi board and established a connection between them.
Benefits of the ProjectThe benefits of home automation typically fall into a few categories, including savings, safety, convenience, and control.
Here is a closer look at some of the biggest benefits that home automation provides.
- Savings: Controlling of Electrical devices with smart devices saves money as it doesn’t require labor force for larger buildings to operate. It could be operated by only one person knowing details.
- Safety: Safety is the most advancing benefit of this project. This provides safety to human from electrical danger. No one has to go near the high running voltages and high power switches to operate them. They could easily be operated sitting at safer place.
- Convenience: Because home automation technology performs rote tasks automatically, end users experience great convenience. Lots of smart gadgets are compatible with one another, and you can set different triggers between devices to automate regular home processes.
- Control: We can also choose smart home devices to better control functions not only within the premises. But with this we have total control of our system sitting anywhere and can turn off our loads sitting outside the premises and can analyze the system anytime.
- Comfort: Some people use smart technology so that by connecting to devices they can help creating a comfortable atmosphere. They provide intelligent and adaptive lighting, sound, and temperature, which can all help create an inviting environment.
At the deliverable stage of the project we have completed the project upto 95%. We have run the project using mobile application made by group member Faizan ali khan. we have turned ON and OFF the parts of buildings and Supervisor has checked all the works.
The system is designned such that is could be Installed anywhere in Pakistan with little changes. it is capable of controlling 10 contactor at this time.
In short the project is working according to desired plan and instruction.
