Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject Summary

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) equipped with sensors, in order to monitor and collect air quality real time data in designated areas and send it to the ground base. This project is designed and implemented by a multidisciplinary team from electrical and computer engineering departments. The electrical engineering team responsible for implementing air quality sensors for detecting real time data and transmit it from the plane to the ground.

Project Objectives

The overall objective of the project is to develop a fixed wing UAV equipped with air quality sensors that collect data, transmit those collected data and provide a platform to see and visualize all the collected measurements in an easy and user-friendly fashion. Even, it provides a live video streaming and supports autopilot feature through ground control station.

Project Implementation Method

Project is to design, implement, and test a stable flying Quadcopter that can be used to collect and save Carbon dioxide gas sensing data along with the location using GSM module. Quadcopter the capabilities to gather and log data autonomously. A GSM module will be used to determine the current position and an SIM card will be used to track location Arduino Uno board has to be connected to carbon dioxide sensor and then GSM-SIM 900A has to be connected for tracking location by inserting SIM card.

Benefits of the Project

Working with in Environment: From a pipeline stretching hundreds of miles through the wilderness to processing plants situated near populated areas, it’s important to choose natural gas detectors that will function well within your specific work environment. For example, when choosing detectors for a pipeline, always make sure they can withstand temperature extremes, since it’s likely the detectors will be installed outside. And when choosing natural gas sensors for an industrial facility, always make sure they come equipped with alarms such as sirens, strobes, and warning lights that flash red and yellow to indicate the level of danger. By having multi-alarm capabilities, the sensors can be installed virtually anywhere, and can save lives if a catastrophic event takes place.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The UAV module will consist of sensors with interfacing circuit, Arduino for data collection, Raspberry Pi for data transmission via 4G modem, GPS to link measurement to a location and height where it taken at, Camera for live streaming and an open source flight controller to support installation of autopilot software
