Driver Lane Assist System for Extra Urban Highways
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThis project is being designed to help the community drivers to make their job easy. Through this methodology, the driver will not only be able to detect the speed of neaby moving vehicles but will also get help in safe overtaking while moving on a single-lane extra urban highways. To get this done, we are using Microstrip Patch antennas mounted on the front and back side of each car and that are fed to the controller. This controller is used for analysis and decision making which is further controlling an application running on infotainment system of a car. These antennas produce electromagnetic waves and then receive them back from incoming and overtaking cars for post processing. Due to frequency shift in the waves, controller calculate and display the speed of vehicle using doppler effect on the screen. Moreover, it will help the vehicles in safe overtaking while traveling on two-way road. This process is done with the help of wireless communication using same antennas. Front antenna of center car is used for detection of incoming car and back antenna is used for detection of back car. Then the distance from the front car will be estimated by the controller and then it will ask to wait or allow for overtaking to the back car(s).
Project Objectives- To calculate actual and relative speed of vehicles moving at the front or back of a car.
- To provide safe overtaking for vehicles on two-way roads.
- To assist lane change in urban road networks.
This project will use highly directive high gain patch antennas for sending and receiving electromagnetic waves. Microcontroller will be required for calculation purpose and decision making. The alert signals will be displayed/communicated using LEDs or traffic lights signals.
Benefits of the ProjectThis project is designed to provide direct help to the community drivers while traveling on highways. Through this project, drivers will be able to know the actual and relative speed of nearby moving vehicles. Moreover, they will be able to get help in safe overtaking while traveling on two-way roads where sudden appearance of incoming vehicle makes overtaking difficult and sometimes cause accidents. In this way, overall traffic risk factor will be reduced.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThis project will be presented as a software and hardware integration having prototype explaining the working of project. Antenna simulations will be done using HFSS. Moreover, Proteus design will be provided for software working and then hardware will be designed for practical implementation of an idea. This will include antennas mounted on cars fed with microcontroller.
