DIFR Walk
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryOne of the common problems faced by visually impaired users is independent path-based mobility in an unfamiliar indoor environment. Existing navigation systems provides limited guidance in this regard. Moreover, they are expensive in terms of equipment and are slow in processing. The basic purpose of proposing this project is to develop an easy to use navigation system for visually impaired users with efficient obstacle detection using RFID and Android Technology. This system audibly guides the visually impaired users by providing a step-by-step directions to the destination from any location in the building using minimal additional infrastructure. The combination of Image Processing, Android (Smartphone) and RFID based Technologies will help the proposed system to accurately detect the obstacles and provide the efficient, and unobtrusive guidance to the visually impaired users. In future, this system will not only facilitate the visually impaired users in navigation but, it will also open new horizons for the research community to extend this idea using smart cities technology.
Project ObjectivesThe basic objectives of the proposed software are
- Installation and Configuration of Hardware
- Source to Destination navigation management using RFID and path finding techniques
- Obstacle Detection using Impage Processing Technology
- Audible guidance management using Android Technology
An incremental modelling based approach is used for the development of this project. The proposed project will be decomposed into two basic modules named as Client and Server sides. Navigation, Obstacle detection, Audible guidance will be generated and maintained by Server side.
While Client Side module provides the audible interface, covering the whole features of the server side. Android with Java and SQL server is used for client and server side respectively.
Benefits of the Project- The major benefit of this project is to audibly facilitate the visually impaired users so that they can navigate anywhere, anytime easily and efficiently.
- Path-based navigation with active guidance for turns and important landmarks.
- The proposed system will detect and recognize obstacles efficiently without using extra hardware
- The blend of multiple techniques like RFID, image processing, path finding, Andorid etc will open new horizons for the research community to extend this idea in smart cities technology.
At the end we will submit the project report and code of our project to the unviersity authorities.
