Develop Bioinformatics tool to relate statistical data of Hemoglobin partial pressure of oxygen and pulse rate of selected human individuals

Project Area of Specialization

Artificial Intelligence

Project Summary

Dates are the most beneficial fruit when it comes to nutrition; they have immense importance in the world especially the Muslim world. They are nutritious each containing 2g of calories, 5.33g of total fat content, 0.6g of total carbohydrate content,0.4mg of iron, and 0.6g of dietary fiber. Dates increase your overall body strength and increase the sperm count of males. They are good for promoting natural labor as they are considered to cause dilation during delivery. The fruit contains high number of antioxidants that removes oxidizing agents from body and prevent against potential diseases. They are excellent natural sweeteners for the food industry. There is still no proof of dates increasing blood sugar levels or blood pressures as the fruit has zero glycemic index. They are equally beneficial for bone health and blood sugar control.

Iron is essential to maintain the process of erythropoiesis. Insufficiency results in adverse

consequences in iron-poor erythropoiesis, which, if persistent, reasons iron deficiency anemia.

Anemia is a common clinical sickness within side the globe and impacts greater than 2.36

billion (32.1%) inhabitants. In sufferers scheduled for surgery, about one 1/3 suffers from preoperative anemia.

Our research focuses on effect of dates on Hemoglobin level, partial pressure of Oxygen, pulse rate, and blood group of individuals. The first 4 months of the study include baseline data

collection of 40 individuals of different age groups and lifestyles. Using oximeter, the partial

pressure of Oxygen is noticed regularly of the subjects. The Hemoglobin is checked once before

the research starts. Also, blood sugar level, pulse rate and cholesterol of these subjects are

checked to notice the effect on each once the study ends. The main goal is to take the readings of

Hb, pulse rate, and PO2 as mentioned above for at least 180 days i.e., 8 months.

The second part of the research involves daily intake of dates by individuals and checking their partial pressure of Oxygen daily using oximeter. Blood sugar level and cholesterol of these

individuals are also checked between these months (once in 2 months). The Hemoglobin level is

checked again when the research ends to check the difference in levels after daily intake of dates.

We expect a high content of dissolved oxygen in the blood of individuals with regular date

intake. The positive effect of Iron on blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose and sugar

level is also expected to observe in subjects.

In the next phase, we shall develop a bioinformatics tool and apply it to the statistical data obtained. This tool predicts Hb level on the basis of dietary, partial pressure of oxygen, and biometric data.

Project Objectives

To develop a Bioinformatics Tool that predicts Hemoglobin level on the basis of dietary, partial pressure of oxygen and biometric data.

Project Implementation Method

  • The main focus of this experiment is to observe the effects of the dates on the hemoglobin percent, pulse rate, and partial pressure of oxygen.
  • For this, we have gathered around 50 subjects as volunteers (male and female) of different ages. The main goal is to take the readings of Hb, pulse rate, and PO2 as mentioned above for at least 180 days i.e. 8 months.
  • For the first four months, the readings will be taken anytime without the consumption of dates and for the last four months, the readings will be taken after the consumption of dates to check its effects on the human body.

Steps involved in using Oximeters

An oximeter will be used during our project, which measures the oxygen saturation of hemoglobin in arterial blood and pulse rate.

  • Position your finger in the device correctly such that it should point towards the LED light or detector of the device.
  • Now, wait for a few minutes till the detector takes the readings.
  • With the beep sound, two different readings will appear on the monitor of the detector; Oxygen saturation % of the blood and pulse rate.
  • An oxygen saturation level of 95 to 100% is considered normal.

The pulse rate ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minute is considered normal.

Steps involved in using hemoglobin kits

The hemoglobin kits are handheld devices that can be used conveniently to check hemoglobin levels.

  • The HB testing system includes one HB meter, 10 test strips, and one code chip to control strips, 10 lancets, one lancet device, and one test strip insert.
  • Insert the correct code chip into the code chip slot of the device. Then press and hold the power button for four seconds. Now proceed to set up the units to either g/dL or g/L or mmol/L and save anyone of them.
  • Take the lancet holder and insert a sterile lancet into it. This device is used to obtain a drop of blood.
  • Take one test strip and insert it into the strip channel of the device. Ensure that the test strip is inserted properly into the channel. Now massage the hands to encourage blood flow and clean the testing site by using alcohol swabs.
  • Now use the lancet device to draw the blood of the specimen. Collect the blood of around 10 microliters using the capillary transfer tube or pipette.

Now apply the blood sample to the application area of the test strip, the device will begin to test automatically and will show the results on the screen within 15 seconds.

Apply Artificial intelligence to develop a tool that predicts hemoglobin level

Benefits of the Project

A quick and non-invasive method that predicts the Hemoglobin level of a person.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

An application that helps individuals to find their estimated hemoglobin level through associated information already mentioned.

A person shall answer sets of questions and would get his / her hemoglobin level through the software.

The software shall be written in the form of a python script.
