Anxiety is a major cause of many problems in our daily life, and especially for our young generation. Anxiety leads to sever conclusions if not rectified and treated properly at the proper time and with utmost care. It is our body’s natural response to fear, stress or sadness. Its a feeling of apprehension or fear about the future. Such as going for a job interview, the first day of school, or giving a speech. In short, anything that causes fear and nervousness within you can be termed as anxiety. We live in a society, where one is demoralized and thought to be mentally ill if he sees a psychiatrist for his/her treatment of anxiety or other disorders. That becomes one of the biggest reasons for a dramatic increase in the rise of suicidal rates in our society. Generally, anxiety can be detected and treated at very early stages, but once it catches roots, anxiety can turn itself into depression and consequently resulting the patient into taking extreme steps such as suicide. Anxiety has proved to be a major key player in the rising death toll of our youth. We live in a society, where it is not feasible to go to a psychiatrist every now and then. Therefore, in order to make it more convenient for people to understand the axiety and detect it, so that it maybe cured at very early stages, we are devising an mobile application that would treat anxiety using EEG Sensor from EEG Headset. The detailed process is mentioned below in the figure 1.

Project Objectives

Anxiety is one of the major & most overlooked issues in our society, most of the population is suffering from it, mainly consisting of youth. Taking this general problem into consideration a mobile Application is discussed in this proposal using Electroencephalography (EEG) Sensor to counter the problem. Occasional anxiety is an expected part of life. You might feel anxious when faced with a problem at work, before taking a test, or before making an important decision. But anxiety disorders involve more than temporary worry or fear. The symptoms can interfere with daily activities such as job performance, schoolwork, and relationships. The objective of this project is the development of a method using machine learning techniques that will use EEG sensors to detect and reduce anxiety rates in our society. The below-discussed application will help the user detect anxiety, its level and provide relevant therapy on the spot. We aim to do the following through our application:

  • Remotely diagnosing Anxiety
  • Using EEG Sensors to make the process more beneficial
  • Using Standard scales to make our application standardized
  • Treat Anxiety at home
  • Reduction in visits to a psychiatrist
  • Time Saving applications
  • Increase user stability
  • Increase user’s performance in life
  • Implementing an AI Model
  • Using an AI Bot to treat the potential patient

Project Implementation Method

First, the user will buy the EEG Sensor and will download the premium app on their mobile phones. The user will then be asked to create a user account. Next, the user will be asked to wear the EEG sensor in the correct way so as to get the best results. Then the user will be asked several questions based on the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A) and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS). The EEG sensor will sense the changes taking place in the users mind with the help of EEG Wavelets. The EEG Sensor will continuously send the signals to the mobile application and those will be stored in the temporary database. The AI used in the application will calibrate the effect of those questions with the mind-reading and will provide more accurate results. If the user is found to have anxiety, then the user will be asked again to take some tests to determine the type of anxiety, level of anxiety and other parameters. In the end, the user will be recommended relevant therapies, suggestion life hacks and exercises to ease out the anxiety. But still is the user is not satisfied, our app will refer him to some good doctors in their locality. Graphically, our project’s workflow is mentioned below:

Benefits of the Project

Nearly 65% of our population consists of youth and almost 33.38% of that population is affected, one way or another, by some type of anxiety. And silent suicide rate, as coined by DAWN, has risen to an enormous rate in past years due to depression and anxiety. With research in the above-mentioned field, we can compress the suicide rate in our youth and can also help people fight the impact of anxiety and help them overcome it.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Keeping in view the depth of this problem, it needs to be addressed in a way that it can reach the society and compress the exponential rate of suicides in our society. Therefore, in order to do so, further research in this field is very crucial for the sake of our future. For our youth, technology matters. Therefore, we are trying to build an AIbased mobile application that will read EEG Signals from our mind and will simultaneously chat with the user to determine the effect on their mind. Thus, to culminate the erroneous part between human wellbeing and machines, this is a significant field of research.

As a final deliverable, we will be having a complete setup with an AI-Enabled Mobile Application and an EEG Headset, that would allow us to receive data from the EEG Sensors and predict the rate of anxiety the user/patient is suffering from.
