Project Title

Design of wide band Metasurface for microwave Application

Project Area of Specialization Artificial IntelligenceProject Summary

In proposed project we aim to design low profile, lightweighted, superior performance Metasurfaces which perform polarization conversion (Polarization conversion in reflection mode, polarization conversion in transmission mode), and absorbtion of electromagnetic waves of different wavelengths. Polarization state is an intrinsic property of electromagnetic waves, and lots of efforts have been made to control and manipulate it through artificially designed subwavelength structures (Metasurface). The conversion between polarization states is very often highly desirable (or even necessary) for many modern electromagnetic and photonic applications.Although polarization of the EM waves can be manipulated through conventional methods such as by using the optical activity of crystals and the Faraday effect, devices based on conventional techniques are largely handicapped due to their bulky size, narrow bandwidth, and incident angle dependent response. To achieve the polarization control of the EM waves over small distances and wide bandwidths, miniaturized artificial structures must be realized.

Recently, the Metasurface absorber (MSA) has become a new research focus towards designing a perfect MSA resonant unit. MSA has various properties and offer excellent features includes near-unity absorbance, ultra-thin thickness, wide angles of incidence, and polarization insensitivity, makes it suitable for antennas designs, for the reduction of radar cross section (RCS) in stealth technology, photodetectors by enhancing absorption in both solar photovoltaic and thermo-photovoltaic cells to improve the performance and also in wireless communication.

Project Objectives Project Implementation Method

The project is based on the design and analysis of Metasurface for microwave application and we will design and simulate the Metasurface using computer simulation technology (CST) Microwave studio (2014), which is very handy tool for this design. FR-4 substrate and pure copper metal is used for design.first of all we design Metasurfaces in CST and check their reponses (result). Those designs who fulfill our need will then Fabricated. The fabricated designs is then test, and the result of fabricated designs are compared with simulation results.
