Project Summary

5G of mobile communication is the future of high speed low latency and more reliable standard for
wireless devices. For this purpose researchers has proposed diverse techniques and frequency
bands for designing for 5G antennas in order to achieve optimum performance; however each
technique has its own pros and cons and design challenges
In this project novel 5G MIMO antennas in sub 6 G HZ will be designed by using the most feasible
techniques in order to achieve high gain border band with reduce mutual coupling.

Project Objectives

  • Design and analysis of 5G antenna.
  • Design and analysis of 5G antenna with enhanced gain using different techniques such as dielectric lens, metamaterial lens and parasitic elliptical patch.
  • Design and analysis of 5G antenna with enhanced bandwidth using different techniques such as neutralization line techniques, (E, C and H) shaped patch antenna.
  • Design of 5G antenna with reduced mutual coupling, using different mutual coupling reduction strategies such as split ring resonator (SRR), Frequency selective surface (FSS), implementing defective ground structures (DGSs), electromagnetic band gap, parasitic element.
  • Fabrication, testing and validation of the results.

Project Implementation Method

All simulations and the optimization process are performed using CST or HFSS, an industry-standard software simulator which is based on based on Finite Integration Technique (FIT) that is equivalent to Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD). For decoupling of array antennas different decoupling techniques will be used.

Benefits of the Project

This research will contribute both practically and in term of academia, in the following ways.

  • As we know mutual coupling effect the radiation of an array antenna, our proposed antenna will reduce that effect of mutual coupling and will produce more radiation. Due to this reason our proposed antenna will be more efficient than the traditional array antenna and will be more useful for the field.
  • By designing the proposed antenna it will increase the gain of the 5G array antenna means it will cover more area. Due to this its capacity will also increase and provide service to more users.
  • By improving the 5G array antenna and increasing its radiation by reducing its mutual coupling this antenna will contribute and will be used in satellite and space communications. And will also help in military areas to transmit more radiations.
  • Our proposed antenna will have low error rate and have more efficiency than the previously used antennas, which have less radiation due mutual coupling.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The expected deliverables at the end of the project are:
1. Design, fabrication and testing of the proposed 5G MIMO antennas.
2. A well complied and compressive thesis report.
3. Publication/ submission of research output of the project.
