Design and Implementation of Smart Trolley using RFID Technology
An RFID based Trolley is to be designed which will facilitate the customer while shopping in super marts. In metro cities a huge rush can be seen at shopping malls on holidays and weekends. People purchase a variety of items and put them in the trolley. After total purchasing the cashier prepares the bill which is a time-consuming process. This results in long queues at the billing counters. This project presents an idea to develop a system in shopping malls to overcome the above-mentioned problem. To achieve this all products in the mall should be equipped with RFID tags and all trolleys should be equipped with a RFID reader and LCD screen. When one puts any product in the trolley, its code will be detected automatically, the item name and cost will be displayed on the LCD, thereby the cost gets added to the total bill. If one wishes to remove the product from the trolley, he/she can take away the product and the amount of that specific product gets deducted from total amount and the same information passes to the central billing unit via ZigBee module. Hence the billing can be done in the trolley by itself saving a lot of time of the customers.

The system consists of a Software i.e. Android Application which helps in finding the placement of item in the shopping mall. The required item can be searched using Application, and the application will tell the Rack number and the stack number as well, where the exact item is located. The hardware which consist a RFID based module, Arduino UNO R3 and an LCD display system as the main component of the system, helps in collecting the data related to the item required and receives the instruction given to the module and process it and displays on the LCD screen. On the LCD screen price of the item, weight (in grams) and counts the total weight and prices of items continuously. This data is also shared with the cashier using IoT system. The cashier just needs to collect the bill payment and hand over the receipt to the customer. And it saves the time. Both hardware and software will be embedded on trolley.

Final deliverable will consist of a prototype of Smart Shopping cart with an embedded system of both hardware and software.
