Design and fabrication of Rheumatoid arthritis Patients mobility aided device.
Project Area of Specialization Biomedical EngineeringProject SummaryThere are many people who suffer from arthritis disease, because of that they can not sit and stand easily. In Pakistan, equipment, which can aid such kind of patients, are not widely available. Our aim is to design and fabricate a device which will help these people. For its fabrication, our focus is to select that kind of material which is light weight and have high strength. After doing stress analysis on different materials, we have decided to choose Aluminum to complete the fabrication process. Our device consists of different parts, which include calf plate, thigh plate, back support, and remote-controlled electric actuators.
Project ObjectivesFollowing are the main objectives in which this device can be Beneficial:
- This device will primarily be useful for those patients who have any kind of Arthritis, such as, Rheumatoid, Osteoarthritis etc. which mainly effects knee joints.
- To shift the patients from wheelchair to bed and vice versa.
- This device can improve the quality of life of individuals who have lost their use of legs.
- To exercise for Injured person.
- To help nurses in moving and carrying heavy patients.
Person will wear this device. When the person wants to Stand up, he will push the button, device will stand him up slowly without help of other person. And vice versa.
Benefits of the ProjectFollowing are the benefits :
- This device will primarily be useful for those patients who have any kind of Arthritis, such as, Rheumatoid, Osteoarthritis etc. which mainly effects knee joints.
- Patients move without support of other person from wheelchair to bed and vice versa.
- This device can improve the quality of life of individuals who have lost their use of legs.
- Injured person will be able to exercise.
- Nurses will be able to move and carry heavy patients.
In this device we use two remote controlled electric linear actuators, each has 12V motor and they can operate at minimum current of 2 Ampere. There Power Capacity are 20W or Maximum 30W. The Stroke of actuator is 150 mm and each actuator can lift the weight upto 40 Kg. The actuators are connected with Calf and Thigh plate. Stroke of actuators can move the thigh plate at angle of 90° to 180°.
