Design and Fabrication of Manually Operated Crop Harvesting Machine
Project Area of Specialization Shared EconomyProject SummaryAgricultural products contribute a major portion to our economy. Engineering science has brought tremendous changes in traditional methods of agriculture viz. sowing, planting, irrigation, fertilizer spraying, harvesting, etc. However, to increase our economic condition, we must increase the productivity and quality of our farming activities. Nowadays very few skilled labours are available for agriculture. Because of this shortage the farmers prefer to use reaper harvesters. The present state of agricultural farm machinery and equipment and land. Agriculture is a major contributor to Pakistan’s economy’s GDP. Pakistan has about 26% of GPD in Agriculture and implies about 43% of the labour force.
The purpose of our FYP is to automate the Farming and to advance the level of harvesting in Pakistan. Generally, manual worker takes time and is not effective as they can work for 3-4 hours at a stretch. Even if the land holding is small, it takes two or three days to completely harvest the crops. Also, the harvesting is not done with proper care and cost more than their efficiency.
Project ObjectivesObjectives:
- To minimize labor work
- To speed up the harvesting process
- To make an economical and efficient affordable machine
- To design a lighter weight machine.
- To perform functions like cutting and binding.
- To reduce the cost of maintenance.
APPROACH AND METHODOLOGY:
With the demand for the grains on rise, the aim was to fabricate inexpensive reaper collector for increasing the economy of small-scale farmers. For the fulfilment of this aim, it is decided to follow following steps:
Conducting Interviews with Farmers:
We will discuss with the local farmers who have small scale land holding and enquire about the harvesting practices and the crops produced and emerging trends in crop harvesting. The purposes of this visit was to see and enquire about the harvesting machines that are being used by the farmers. The following queries were asked to the farmers:
- What are the machines available for harvesting?
- What do these machines cost?
- Are these machines feasible for small scale farms?
- What are the traditional techniques used for harvesting?
- Can a small harvester collector be able to satisfy the increasing prices of labou ???????
Consulting Agricultural Machines Manufacturer:
-
We will Visit the manufacturing machine and will ask following questions:
- What are the Instruments manufactured for the farmers today?
- How many No. of these manufactured equipment’s are available for small scale farmers?
OUTCOME:
After achieving our goal, we will be able to commercialize our product and will help in future to the farmers occupying small lands. This will save time, money and manpower.
The cost of the machine is less and if the farmer buys this machine farmer can recover the invested money back. By using this machine problems of the labour crises can be release. It makes the process faster hence reduces most of the harvesting time and labours required to operate the machine is also less. The machine is helpful for both small and big farms.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableBasically we are changing the mechanism of Manually Crop Harvester, to minimize its cost. from slider Crank mechanism we are changing it to scotch yolk mechanism which will required low power engine.
Blades will slide over one another for cutting.
2hp Engine will be used for the power to the machine.
