Project Area of Specialization 3D/4D PrintingProject SummaryAbrasive water jet cutting machine is an innovative industrial tool that incorporates high pressure jet of water and abrasives for cutting of materials like glass, thin metals and certain plastics. Calculated pressure of water is used along with sand as abrasive. The water jet is made to flow through a small nozzle of diameter of 2mm to cut glass of 0.125 mm thickness.Pressure is systematically controlled with a plunger pump with an attached motor.
This method is an enviornment friendly method and does not produce harmful gases. It is a fast process that has a lot of flexibility in its application with great precision.
Project ObjectivesTo Design and fabricate a low cost industrial CNC Abrasives Waterjet Cutting Machine for cutting of thin material.
Project Implementation MethodThe water jet velocity is calculated based on pressure of pump and niozzle orifice diameter. Further more, power of abrasive is calculated along with water jet mass flow rate. The model is made on CERO software based on calculations. The model is then fabricated and tested for working.
Benefits of the ProjectThis method is an enviornment friendly method of cutting materials and does not produce harmful gases. It is a fast process that has a lot of flexibility in its application with great precision. It provifdes a hazard free enviornment and is safe to use.
