Project Summary

The identification and detection of human using the unique characteristics of their faces is known as facial recognition. It is the least intrusive and fastest biometric technology.This project aims at developing a system that will use facial recognition to automatically record the attendance of students in the next generation classroom. The objective of this project is to thoroughly study the methods of facial recognition and apply the resultant technology in designing a smart attendance system. For the design of this smart attendance system, we will deploy a two-step mechanism. Firstly, we will detect the faces through feature extraction with the help of the facial recognition method. The second step would be to compare the detected face with the existing database in order to recognize the face and automatically mark the attendance.

Project Objectives

The following tasks will be performed in this project.

  1. Selection of a suitable facial recognition technique.
  2. Implementation of the selected technique.
  3. Development of a Graphical User Interface (GUI).
  4. Development of automated attendance generation system.

Project Implementation Method

This project aims to develop a device/system which will be implemented as follows:

  1. Choosing of a facial recognition technique.
  2. Developing the program and the algorithmic structure required for manipulating the facial recognition system to mark the attendance of students automatically.
  3. Testing of all the components after the formation of the smart attendance system.
  4. Achievement of a complete, working smart attendance system using facial recognition technology.
