Project Title

design and development of medical dummy patient

Project Area of Specialization

Biomedical Engineering

Project Summary

In this project we are working on dummy(manikin) patient to create real time scenarios to train Medical students which delivers three vital signs reading  according to different diseases in human body through RaspberryPi. We will store different vital signs diseases’s recorded sounds and we also show the waveforms of the diseases’s on screen.

Project Objectives

To design and fabricate a medical dummy patient which can be hooked up with the real blood pressure, ECG and pulse monitoring equipment in which we can program different cases in order to help medical students to identify the conditions from different diseases.

Project Implementation Method

In the project,we examine three main vital signs on medical training manikin, which is used for training purpose in hospitals, allow nursing, clinical and emergency training. We will create a simulated environment.

In this we will use arduino and RaspberryPi for programming for different disease cases related to our selected vital signs.

This will be very helpful for the doctor's, paramedical staff and nurse's training in real world environment.

Benefits of the Project

  • To diagnose different diseases/abnormalities in selected vital parameters
  • To train medical students, nursing staff and medical trainers
  • Cost effective
  • project will provide much more realistic training excersize than a traditional class room lectures
  • remove risk of working on real patients

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Stages of hardware design consist of RaspberryPi, Medical Manikin, Arduino, Screen, Motors, speakers, key pads, water pump, ECG leads, BP Cuff and Pulse oximeter probe.

We will use Arduino to generate reactions on manikin according to different disease through LED, motor, speaker & water pump. ECG leads, BP Cuff & Pulse probe will act as switch & through Keypads we will control different disease cases. Results of data processed through Arduino will be forwarded to RaspberryPi.

The waveform of all vital signs with their readings can be visualized on screen which is programmed through RaspberryPi.
