Design and Development of Automated Pharmacy
Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryThere is only one company Willach Pharmacy Solutions, which makes the automated pharmacy robot situated in UK, in our South Asian region still we are using the conventional ways to sort out the medicine from shelves in our companies and inventory stores, for this purpose we are using so many employees that increase the cost and completion time. These conventional pharmacies also take so much space to operate by employees we can’t store a large inventory in small areas in these stores. That’s why we use automated pharmacy robots to handle it because it provides a large area to install a greater number of shelves to store the medicines, easy to operate, no need to use a large number of employees in the store, also save time.
In our project, we use the concept of Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) to design the automated pharmacy robot to sort out the medicine but we are not using use the concept of automated storage an also we did do some amendments in our project design which differentiates this project from others. This project is also about entrepreneurship that’s why we are designing it according to our region so that we can easily install it in this region in the future.

Project ObjectivesProject Objectives;
- To increase storage capacity
- To increase storage density
- To utilize maximum floor space
- To reduce labor cost
- To increase productivity
- To reduce operating time
- To improve inventory control
- To improve customer service
More fully automated pharmacies in other countries have the ability to turn out products 24 hours a day, 7 days a week without extra labor cost.
Project Implementation MethodOur project is to reduce the labor cost, area and time that every pharmacy is facing. We select the working principle of ARS for our automated pharmacy, as I discussed above only one “Willach Pharmacy Solution” is producing pharmacies. As you know our project is about Entrepreneurship so we checked all their designs and then needed to design a different one that fulfills the requirements of our region as well as other regions.
After sorting out all of their designs now we required to do some changes in our pharmacies which will make it unique as compares to their pharmacies design for this purpose, we did some amendments in our designs to keep it safe from copywriter issues also we reduce the cost by replacing some components as compares to their pharmacies.

Figure: Methodology
How the whole system does operate?

• Computer Operator
When the costumer comes to the counter, he demands for the products, the computer operator will just give the commands to the system to get the products he wants?
• Robot
After given the command to the system by an operator the robotic system will proceed further and the product will drop on the conveyor.
• Conveyor Belt
When the robot drops the product, the conveyer will carry it to the counter to handover it to the operator and finally will be given to the customers after packaging and labeling.
Benefits of the ProjectBenefits of the Project;
In our Projects, we are using the concept of ASRS which will give these benefits;
- Remember ASRS can save up to 85% of floor space, which you can then utilize for other revenue-generating activities.
- Automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) are used in several different industries from electronics to government, distribution to manufacturing.
- ASRS typically replace large areas of shelving to maximize your existing facility and optimize your labor force.
- Automation Optimizes Existing Space
- Increase Productivity with Automation
- Reduce Picking Errors with ASRS
We will receive many benefits from automating all the system of our pharmacy some other benefits are:
-
The ability to compete more effectively in a global market
Many overseas competitors, especially those in China and Germany, are using automated pharmacies to sell products quickly and inexpensively. We must keep up with the industry to land contracts.
Reduction of labor costs
While we hope to retrain some staff to work with the robots and plan to hire only staff such as a computer operator we can expect to reduce costs of benefits such as vacation, sick leave, and health insurance which we now pay to our workers at times they are not producing. Robots don’t get benefits and don’t expect raises and bonuses. No work limit with increased automation, we should be able to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week Efficient than human automated facilities are cleaner and more energy-efficient, and thereby “greener” than employing a large workforce that commutes every day.
Technical Details of Final Deliverable
- Only four(Main) components are used in the development of the system.
- Flexible to replace the parts in the future of the system.
- Hybrid can be used with a conveyer belt or conducting duct.
- Easy and cheap to maintain its mechanical and robotic components.
- Motors installed in the system are cheap.
- There are no effects of the environment on the system (Long Lasting).
- The computer management system is easy to handle for the layman.
- The system is much flexible to add more rack or biggest racking systems with the same position slider, mechanical part, and computer management system.
