Design And Development of a Mechanism To Generate Electricity From Speed Breakers
This project is about Design and Development of a mechanism that can be installed under speed breakers to convert wasted kinetic energy of vehicles into electricity which is a greener approach of power generation. Prototype and testing of the mechanism is main objective .Two moving racks will be attached with breaker installed under the road in opposite in direction. Pawl and rachet mechanism linear motion of rack will convert liear motion into rotation by using shaft and that rotattion will drive the generator and electricity is produced
The mechanism is installed under the ground and a small speed breaker will be made on which vehicles is passes .When the load is applied on the breaker, the breaker move downaward and rack start moving downward when the rack is moving downward it will rotate ratchet and the shaft is connected with ratchet .Two rack and ratchet is connected with shaft to move the shaft in one direction when the shaft is moving forward first rack and rachet start working and generate electricity while if shaft rotate in anti clockwise direction the polarity is change and there is no generation of electricity,To avoid this problem we use two rack and rachet one rackand ratchet is working in clockwise direction when the breaker is moving downward and self locked the other one and when the breaker came to its original postion the first rack and rachet locks itself and second one is start rotating and the shaft is rotating in clockwise direction.The shaft is then connected with flywheel to store the energy and flywheel shaft is connected with generator and when the coils of the generator is rotated, electricity will be produced and it can be used anywhere in street lights Toll plaza etc.
