Design And Development Of a Bi-Directional Communication Relay For UAVs
This project aims to develop a bidirectional RF wireless relay that will extend the range of coverage for transmission. The relay will be a useful means for enabling transmission and reception where physical structures become an obstruction.
The relay will be capable of receiving data from one end amplify it and re-transmit it to the other end. As it is not possible to receive and transmit on the same frequency, the relay will receive data on transmit frequency of one end, convert it to the receive frequency of the other end and transmit it. To enable bi-directional communication the same process will be repeated for data flow in the other end. Thus the relay will be handling four different frequencies. The relay will use frequencies in UHF band for better coverage in dense areas.
The objective of this project is to design a relay that will receive video communication from a UAV, amplify it, convert its frequency to Ground Station Receive frequency, amplify it and transmit it. Also it will receive command link communication from Ground Station, convert it to UAV receive frequency, amplify it and transmit it.

This project facilitates the provision of data at greater distances without the corruption of data.
This relay can find applications in biomedical devices and other telemetry systems including those used in Beyond Line of Sight (BLOS) UAVs.
