Design and Analysis of Tensegrity Robot
Project Area of Specialization Mechanical EngineeringProject SummaryTensegrity robots can withstand high impact loads and by use of ingenious control systems can be
converted into a mobility platform. By the use of space-grade materials for the structure, along with the
concept of morphological computation through resonance, tensegrity robot will not only be capable
withstanding the impact force after being dropped into another plant, but will protect its payload and
then travel to the required destination to collect data and samples.
The objective of this project is to make space exploration missions sustainable in terms of investment as well as the science payback per mission.
Project Implementation MethodThe design will be finalised on NASA's Tensegrity Robotics Toolkit, a simulation based software to analyze the stability of the structure as a landing and mobility platform. The control system of the structure is to be chosen and implemented based on the requirement of the space mission.
Benefits of the ProjectThe design and analysis conducted will have the potential to contribute in giving Pakistan a starting point in the ongoing research into space exploration.
Tensegrity robots allow for a much more cost effective solution to other planetary explorations by combining both the landing and mobility platforms into one.
- Finalising the configuration for the Tensegrity Structure
- Performing a simulation based analysis on the Structure
- Choosing an optimal control system for the design
