Design & Development of Wheeled Type Pipeline Inspection Robot
Most pipes are not easily accessible for humans or are too dangerous. Un identified condition of these pipes risks unaffordable damage in the form of an accident or repair costs.
Aim of the project is to eliminate the human factor from labour intensive or dangerous and inaccessible work environment. A robot can be used to help provide easier and better inspection of pipelines. The purpose of inspection is to address a problem in order to control it before it gets worse and result in manufacturing delays or extensive repair cost. This inspection is performed in empty pipes; concrete and metal when the system is not being used. The sensors will be used to provide real time video feed of the pipe interior over Bluetooth, through a smart phone app. The inspection will consist of finding any cracks, blockage, fungus or signs of wear and tear. This robot eliminates the dependency of a wire and restrictions in freedom of movement that occurs using an endoscopic camera.
This project proposed a wheeled type robot model for pipeline inspection using a Arduino UNO and sensors. An Arduino IDE environment will be used to program the microcontroller, solidworks will be used to model the robot structure and proteus or similar sofware will be used for circuit design.
The Material for structure of the robot would be plastic or pvc that would be able to withstand the added weight of the electronic equipment without affecting the locomotion of robot.
The flow chart shown below explains the methodology. An android app will be used to control and move the robot inside the concrete or metal or plastic pipe through bluetooth module that links with the microcontroller and other equipment. The sensors connected will acquire information such as video feed or pictures of the pipeline interior and send the results back to the user over bluetooth on an android phone.

The prototype of ''Wheeled Type Inspection Robot'' system will be delivered along with its technical detailed reports. The system mainly consists of two parts:
