Contactless Thermal Body Scanner
A contactless thermal body scanner will provide the temperature of people passing in front of it. A thermal sensor data will be overlapped onto a camera video to identify the temperature of different body parts specifically the face and hands. The real-time video will be displayed on an LCD pi connected via HDMI cable to the Raspberry pi module. For development purposes, Raspberry 4B will be used however, the final implementation will be on the raspberry pi zero modules to minimize the end product cost. The aim is to develop a handy, ready to install thermal scanner at the entrance of any building, etc.
Thermal Body Scanner will connect through HDMI port with LCD. Raspberry Pi will be packed in a small box of size 90mm × 60mm (Approximately). Both MLX90640 IR thermal Sensor and PI Camera will be outside of it and we can place them anywhere as per our need. But it is important that Thermal Sensor and Pi Camera should be inlined with each other so that both get the same view and give us overlap images of temperature details and real pictures of the environment.
The year 2020 has brought unprecedented challenges for the world population in the form of the viral COVID-19 pandemic. Although its intensity has decreased, it is still on the rise in many countries. Although vaccines have started to emerge, their efficacy is still to be established. The best line of defense against this deadly disease is effective precautionary measures. The best measure is to effectively isolate infected persons from others. One major COVID-19 symptom is high body temperature i.e. fever.
Currently, the majority of organizations use a handheld thermal gun to measure body temperature. It is a manual task taking a lot of time and resources with chances of errors and risk of infection. Contactless thermal body scanner aims to solve these problems by automating the process and reducing the risks of error and infection spread. It will show, in real-time the temperature of a person in its field of view and generate an alert or siren in case it detects any anomaly thus eliminating the need for any human monitoring. This will not only reduce the human resource capital but also decrease the human error frequency. Furthermore, the data can be stored for further analytics.
