Project Summary

The fast spread of the novel coronavirus and the disease it causes, COVID-19, has taken the globe by surprise. Stopping the spread of COVID-19 is as supreme as finding the cure of the disease. We can stop its spread by breaking the chain of virus carriers. For this purpose, we have to identify those persons who have been exposed to the virus and those persons who are at risk of the exposure.

The government is using the method of Manual Contact Tracing. Government health officials interview the person who is tested positive for COVID and ask him the contacts of the persons he met within the last week. But this method is not much effective. First, it is time taking and a slow process. Second, a person cannot remember all the people he met within a week. So, we cannot rely on that.

This application will solve the problems we face in Manual Contact Tracing. It will communicate with the users (people who installed the same app) via Bluetooth technology stores their data locally (Device ID, other Device ID, and Timing). It will record the persons, user met with every day also the time and date of their meeting. When one user is tested positive for coronavirus his status is changed on the app. All his contacts of the previous week are alerted through exposure notification. Also, the government gets the details of all COVID-positive patients and those persons who came in contact with them.

Our objective is to solve all the problems of the traditional way of contact tracing. For this purpose, we are proposing a Digital Contact Tracing Mobile Application.

Project Implementation Method

Project Implementation Methods:

  1. Contact Tracing
    In contact tracing app will keep tracing the users and make a trip diary for the users. To achieve this, the app makes use of Bluetooth for converting the device into a beacon. The app tracks if the users made any contact with someone who is at high coronavirus risk. The application can also track the travel history of the users and the stops they made – if the location falls under the geofence targeted by the admin, the profile will get notified, automatically.
  2. Self-Assessment 
    With the use of AI, our app offers a quick assessment test based on the symptoms that have been recorded by coronavirus patients across the globe. Based on the test, the algorithms identify the user’s risk level.
  3. Exposure Notification Management 
    In this Module whenever this app user comes in contact with any COVID-positive app user he is alerted through an exposure notification. Also, all the users that are recorded in the trip diary of COVID-positive patients are notified via exposure notification. For this purpose firebase cloud messaging is useful.
