RF signals are typically the source of transmitting and receiving information between two or more users. we will show that RF signals can also sense around the environment in which It will be operated and with the collected data we can use it in various applications. In particular, we can use such information/data from the RF signals to detect number of  humans and their relative location behind the wall or in a closed room. The two main innovations will be performed First, how one can eliminate unwanted reflections so that the receiver can only focus on the wanted reflections(reflections from humans). Second, how one can use these minute reflections and analyze the different patterns of RF beam to detect human’s position. We demonstrate our design by using 433MHz as RF source and testing it in closed rooms to detect human position behind the wall.

Project Objectives Project Implementation Method

A project will be implemented using one RF transmitter and Software Defined Radio Receiver and simulation will be on MATLAB SIMULINK. RF signals travel around the environment in a complex way and  reach the receiver along multiple paths. So, to detect people we would be using some advance techniques to separate the individual paths.  RF transmitter will be used for transmitting RF signals that will penetrate through the wall and hit the object and humans and results in some reflections. These minute reflections will received by the Sodtware Defined Radio Radio Receiver. Both the Transmitter and Receiver will be synchronized at center frequencey of 433MHz of UHF band. During the process many reflections would be received because every object has its own characteristics; few of them reflect, few refract and some of them absorb those RF signals. We will be only concerned about the reflections we will get from the humans therefore, we will eliminate those unwanted reflections which will cause disturbance in the process i.e. noise in the signals. After receiving the distorted signals, some preprocessing will be performed using signal processing techniques to reduce the noise and neglect the wanted signals. Now some anaylsis will be performed on the signal received and features will be extracted that can help to predict human's position behind the wall just like radars detect the plane.

This project can help to enchance Personal Security's operation by rescuing hostages. It will also help to rescure people if the disaster happends. It can be helpful in gesture based controlling systems to control devices just like appliances, gaming etc.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

We will test our project by placing our transmitter and receiver infornt of am obstacle such as, wood, glass, wall etc and detect the person behind it by using RF signals without wearing any device or sensor by the human.
