This project provide low cost, portable and efficient room environment monitoring system based on IoT. With the rapid advancement in technology, the world has moved toward smart room and smart city and everybody want to see and control everything from its mobile phone, therefore technology based houses/room are new norms of living . In this Project we have designed a system which automatically controls room lights, door, room temperature & humidity and smart dustbin too. The system also includes different modules, which enables the user to control the household appliances from its mobile application. This system will also shows all the room activities including temperature & humidity level and smart bin status on mobile application and will send a message when an unwanted activity happened. Further, to keep the effectiveness and safety of the proposed devices the instruments will be combined in as gadget. This gadget will be low cost and portable for the use of low income consumers.  In literature [1-4] few similar technologies have been proposed but they have limitations for high cost and non-portable system. The smart room automation make the life easier and more convenient and allows to efficiently manage the workload of the electricity.  Further, the proposed system will also integrate with easy and flexible webpage that control home appliance and continuously monitor it.  With this notion our proposed system has additional advantage to overcome the limitation of previous similar technologies.

Project Objectives

The objective of this project is to develop a smart system that can keep the subject aware about room temperature & humidity, room lights, room door & smart bin control. It can provide further awareness to the user during the critical situations like gas leakage, temperature and humidity increasing/decreasing, using Android App.

The application of smart room can increase the efficiency of electricity usage.  Further the proposed system will make life easier and reduced the energy consumption. We will design a small gadget that facilitate the user for easy portable and low cast system. Have small low cost gadget will control all the room activities including temperature & humidity level and smart bin status on mobile application. Further, the system will provide email system with alert in case of any risk appear. Also, the system will have the ability to keep the records of the utilization of devices.  The smart room is a very important for controlling the room appliances. The room automation provides many advantages such as ease of access, security, comfort, safety. This project is perfectly aligned with requirements of the Information technology in the country.

Project Implementation Method

Smart room has been divided into three broad category namely hardware, software and communication though IoT. The main feature for the room automation is  IoT enabled connectivity for instance lighting control, monitoring of room for safety purpose, control the environment  sensors such as temperature & humidity. The smart room application updates itself and allow users to access it and get the latest status of the room. IoT sensors for the room automation are known by their sensing capabilities, such as: temperature, humidity, infrared, vibrations and ultrasonic. Some of the most commonly used smart room sensors are temperature &humidity sensors, most are digital sensors, but some are analog and can be extremely accurate. PIR can sense the motion of human body etc. The detail architecture are mentioned in Figure - 1

Implementation steps:

The Implementation methodology are details as:

For Room temperature and humidity we will configure sensors with ESP32 on brad board with the help of jumpers. After successful connection of sensors with ESP32 we will check the sensors data for this purpose. Further, we will connect ESP32 to our PC with the help of data cable to check the accuracy of the sensor device. We will use pix LED also as a data receiving object. In the second step we will connect our smart device to Raspberry pi to send the sensors data from ESP32 to Raspberry pi through Wi-fi devices. Raspberry-pi will store this data in his primary memory which we use for further analysis. In the third and last step of our project we will try to make a web application to receive data from raspberry-pi to PC or mobile phone .

Room Door Lock:

For Room door we will configure sensors with esp32 on breadboard, after successful connection we will send ESP32 data to raspberry pi and show it on mobile application so with the help of this we can control our room door from mobile phone.

For Smart Bin:

For Smart Bin we will configure sensor with arduino and esp32. Through pir sensor we will detect human to open bin led and with the help of ultrasonic sensor we will sense bin depth if the depth of the bin cross its threshold then with the help of esp32 it will send msg to specific mobile phone. With help of gesture sensor we can control the different operation of Smart bin.

For Automatic Room Lights:

For Automatic Room Lights we will configure different sensors with arduino and esp32, with the help of pir sensor the lights will be automatically OFF and ON when a person enter into the room. Through Raspberry pi the data will be send to the cloud and will be control from anywhere.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The proposed system will provide low cost and portal gadget that connect room devices in one platform and provide awareness to the user. The proposed system will used different types of sensors like DHT11,MQ2,QM7,MQ9, ultrasonic sensor,pir sensor, having collect the data in the real time. Raspberry-pi will receive this data from sensors connected with ESP32. Raspberry-pi will send this data to cloud and user will receive it  through Android App. Buzzer will be use as emergency alarm if the concentration of gases, temperature increases, or when bin level cross its threshold or someone can enter to room without our permission and user will receive an Alert message through phone or E-mail. The detail technical detail are highlight in the form of below flow diagram of the proposed system
