Project Area of Specialization Artificial IntelligenceProject SummaryTo optimize our shopping marts we want to make a Smart Shopping Cart along with an Android app as our Final Year Project. A cart which could detect the products using Object Detection and OCR with a smartphone which will be mounted on the cart. When Customer will scan the product, then the detected product will be added to the virtual cart in App on phone along with other details of product like price etc. And payments will be made through online payment methods. For its implementation we will have to use On-device models such as MnasNet or MobileNets. Algorithms such as SSD or YOLO will be used.
Project ObjectivesThere are many objectives linked to this project, but the main priority of this project is to replicate the conventional mart shopping process and to bring in automation in place. The key objectives are:
- Self-Checkout concept, where customers will use a smart cart to buy products and will get the accumulated bill against their purchase without any interaction with the cashier.
- The second import objective of this project is to minimize human interactions in circumstances of current COVID19 situation.
- To help customer shop smartly and without any time wastage.
- From the literature we have decided to use single stage detectors such as SSD and YOLO to develop our project.
- On-device models and Frameworks such as MobileNets, TensorFlow Lite and Keras will allow the above algorithms to run on-device in real time.
- In order to develop a more practical and effective product recognition system we opted for our own dataset.
- We used the Mobile variants of the above listed models as we must deploy these models on Phone. Models are YOLOv4-Tiny and SSD MobileNet-v2.

- The smart cart replaces the traditional way of scanning Bar Codes.
- As the User continue to shop each product he scans the product and it gets added to the billso in this way he can easily check the price of any product and can have the freedom of shopping within his budget.
- This is a potential solution to the queuing state, through this project people will be able to shop without any wait and quickly.
- Custom Dataset Creation (15000 to 17000 images).
- A Smart Shopping Cart having a mobile phone mounted on it with real time product detection.
- Phone Application with interactive GUI for in-store shopping.
