Project Summary

We strive to make a progressive world today, where technologies are booming. There are lots of opportunities with various fields where one can make a better career but all it takes the right decision. For that purpose, a person need to have a clear glimpse on what to pursue and to develop greater self-awareness of their interests, health, aptitude and personality styles, including their positive values and work attitude. As wrong decision leads to the failure of a person so it must be obvious to guide them before taking any decision to avoid any misshapen. That’s why it’s a need of time to provide best solution in this regard for the whole career. We are going to find the solution for the above mentioned problem by develop online career counseling system to enable people to observe their potential by accessing their skills, knowledge, interest etc. and explore career options through aptitude test in a way that help an individual to guide him in both fields of educational career as well as job career. We are going to do it through introducing aptitude test in this system for every section of counseling. Section includes Basic (Pre-Matriculation), Professional (Pre-Intermediate), Higher Education (BS-Honors, M-Phil) and Job section. To serve the purpose, a web application for Career Counselling is proposed to provide people right path for their career expansion. This web application will following international standards for health, knowledge and aptitude test to help make right decision automatically. The aim of this platform is the development of the student both emotionally and morally as per their needs. All external restraints and unnecessary formalities should be condemned in education. There's a necessity to plan a proper education and coaching procedure that would equip individuals with self-understanding more deeply and methods to effectively train them to be on right course of life. After performing survey analysis, we concluded that career counseling would play a vital role in the development of educational and professional decision making for a student. Automated and unbiased platform is essential for the awareness of an individual to achieve desired career expansion goals which will nourish his personality, learning and interests and would make contribution in the country’s educational development eventually.

Project Objectives

Through this project we help the society in counseling from Basic studies to advance as well as from job selection to career expansion. The main objectives of the project are as follows:

  1. Enable people to observe their potentials by getting accessed their skills, knowledge, interests etc., through standard assessment tests.
  2. Generating automated guidance for users by applying Naive Bayes algorithm and rule based approach of data mining on conducted tests.
  3. After this support tool development, test will be verified by real life entities and results would be saved in system as an exemplary figure for user in later use.
  4. Along with user’s own generated results, the related real world example will be shared based on this test to check the similarity and correctness of the test.

Project Implementation Method

It is proposed to resolve these psychological and cultural issues technically by developing a web based decision support system using rule based Naïve Bayes approach is proposed to furnish appropriate analytical solution. Once the user has submitted replies to system, algorithm will enact comparisons and prioritizing as per fed rules and frequency of answers, furthermore, prior to mathematical results, unbiased recommendations will be generated on “Heuristic Generation” stage.

Conceptual Model

System Model Design

The system is based on 3 Modules: M1 for Dataset preprocessing, M2 for Heuristic creation and generation while M3 for recommendation process.

Training Dataset Preprocessing: Data to be in some structured form so that it can stored in proper format.

Heuristic Generation: Use rule based Naïve Bayes method, in which rules will be set for each question and answer

Heuristic Evaluation: Once the user has submitted Quiz, the algorithm will match answers of users with the rules that will further executed in “Heuristic Generation” step. It will also check the frequency of the given answers.

Career Recommendations: After “Heuristic Evaluation”, system will recommend a user suitable domain to pursue.

Algorithm Steps:

  1. START
  2. Load assessment test.
  3. Results would be classified in three factors health, aptitude, knowledge/IQ.
  4. Results would be submitted across each category
  5. After submission, the dataset of the related assessment would be found from the database
  6. Preprocessing of data for the data selection and transformation
  7. Compute aggregate with respect to each dataset
  8. Apply heuristics on basis of test score
  9. Result Evaluation
  10. Provide recommendation
  11. END

Benefits of the Project

This self-understanding will allow an individual to make knowledgeable decisions throughout their lives towards the world of work and able to reduce the cultural and philosophical dilemma by accessing the following objective of Career Counseling App:

  • To provide Education, Career Guidance for students and professionals for choosing education stream and selecting job career.
  • To minimize conflicts between education, job and personality.
  • To get best use of knowledge, health, skills and interest.
  • To identify the true nature of mental temperament and skills for career.
  • To provide best suitable options for further Studies and Job.
  • To minimize the mismatching between education and employment.
  • To help an individual in their period of confusion.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

As our assessment covers three characteristics

  1. A: Aptitude
  2. H: Health
  3. S: Subject Knowledge

A and H are conditionally dependent upon S, now predicting the suitable career…

Firstly, the probability of each subject will be checked by using the following formula:

From the above results, Physics and Biology has the higher probability now, moving on, the dependencies of health and aptitude of the user will be checked on both to find out either he/she has the potential to choose Physics more or Biology or None.

A: User’s ability and interest to understand the mathematical problems

X: User Enjoys Physics -> No

Y: User Enjoys Physics -> Yes

(Enjoys Physics -> No) = 78/100 = 0.78

(Enjoys Physics -> Yes) = 22/100 = 0.22

The user has abilities and interests for Physics=No

The user is 78% fit and enjoys Physics = 0.37*0.22 = 0.0814

The user is 78% fit and does not enjoy Physics = 0.37*0.78 = 0.2886

Biology:

H: User has 78% of physical and psychological fitness

A: User’s ability and interest to understand the mathematical problems

X: User Enjoys Biology -> No

Y: User Enjoys Biology -> Yes

(Study Biology -> No) = 78/100 = 0.78

(Study Biology -> Yes) = 22/100 = 0.22

The user has abilities and skill for Biology=Yes

The user is 78% fit and enjoys Biology = 0.28*0.78 = 0.2184

The user is 78% fit and does not enjoys Biology = 0.28*0.22 = 0.0616

Based on calculations, Recommendations are made that User should study Biology instead of Physics
