Building Management System
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryIn the world of today, a major change in technology can be seen as an advantage, a number of different fields from industrial & communication to household application can be automatically controlled. Smart Building Management System forms an integral part of the smart Electrical Network that lowers electricity cost. We are proposing a device on a building management system (BMS) that has been designed for Ziauddin University (FESTM) using Arduino Microcontroller, which is the key module in order to perform the controlling and automation, along with that an esp8266 (Wi-Fi Module) is used in order to check the status on smart devices. The main area of this BMS focuses on switching and controlling the power input/output, besides this security and HVAC process which has also been kept as the main concern in this system. A fire system protection has also been installed in the project in order to keep appliances safe from fire or explosion.
Project Objectives
|
- Automation and Wireless control of the appliances.
- Energy savings and minimizing human risks.
A building management system (BMS) is also known as a building automation system (BAS) refers to a computer-based control system that needs to be installed within buildings to monitor and regulate the building's electrical and mechanical equipment such as power system, lighting, and fire system.
Management Level: This is the front end for the operator and engineer used to visualize the graphics for controlling and monitoring the systems which have computer workstation, server, web browser, printers.
Automation Level: BMS Router and other main controllers connected in building network integrate the third-party system and connect BMS devices.
Field Devises Level: This is the Level where BMS controllers connect to field systems sensors, actuators, and other panel circuits to monitor and control.
System Monitoring and Alarm:
- Software alarms shall be generated at the operator workstation whenever the run status of the supply fan (with differential pressure switch) does not match the current command state.
- A failure alarm shall occur when the run status of the load shows no operation, and the load has been commanded to be on.
- An advisory alarm shall occur when the run status of the load shows operation and the load has been commanded to be off. All alarms shall be recorded in an alarm log for future review. Provide 15 seconds (adjustable) time delays before generating an alarm.
- Building occupants and tenants will be pleased to know that your building is being monitored and controlled. Your building management system provides access control, smoke, and toxic gas detection devices, lighting control, and much more.
- System performance is optimized, and you will save your company time and money on repairing system failures by utilizing detection devices.
- Your equipment operating cost expenditures will decrease by about 15% annually, and new technology will improve the sustainability of systems and equipment.
- A building management system is adaptable to change and can integrate new equipment.
- A BMS lighting system uses a sophisticated web of sensors and occupancy controls. Lighting management also includes outside walkways, parking garages, loading docks, etc. Your company should realize about a 30% annual savings on lighting costs, according to a report by the U.S. Department of Energy.
The building management system is to design and develop a monitoring system platform for the smart meters, smart remote water meters, temperature sensors, and other devices installed in it by using computer network technology, distributed computing technology, and data flow technology. Realize the collection and itemized statistical processing of water consumption, electricity consumption, temperature, and other data.
The real time monitoring is the key feature of this BMS system. We are using the ESP8266 controller in this project, we can control and manage the electrical appliances and this module also provides us WIFI, so that we can access it from anywhere.
