The project title is proposed as Boosting Buddy: Conversational Agent for Improvement of Mental Health. As this application will be used to cheer up the user's mood and cope up the negatives feelings.

Boosting Buddy is an AI-based chatbot that uses psychological techniques to provide user therapy. Pakistan has an alarming situation on mental health diseases, a report claims that depression affects 44percent of the entire population in Pakistan. Its prevalence is higher in women at 57.5percent and 25percent in men. In Pakistan, 50 million people are suffering from common mental disorders. Another disturbing fact is that there are only 750 trained psychiatrists in Pakistan which means there is one psychiatrist for every 10,000 patients suffering mental disorders which causes accessibility issues. If a patient manages to contact a therapist, s/he still has inconvenience in telling the therapist about the personal problems and psychic issues. The proposed system will be the implementation of AI, an automated system, which gets trained using patterns of inputs to give output to the user simultaneously. To enhance customer relationship management using ML and AI to offer 24/7 assistance to both users and therapists.

Project Objectives

The key objective of this project is to build a mental health smartphone application that can help to reduce depression and anxiety by using psychological techniques. As of today in this world, AI is being used in every field especially in mental health. It will also assist the psychiatrist and therapist and create a personal therapist virtual assistant who checks in every day with the patients at any time.

Research Objective

• This study aims to develop a conversational agent by researching the existing system. In the development of this project, we will be using Natural language processing tool kits and some machine learning libraries. These two topics are the recent subject of research nowadays and have a huge importance in the research field.

• To create more opportunities for research in the areas of the practical application related to this study.

• There is a lot of potential in this project to work on it to make it generalize.

There are many problems that don’t allow the patients to get professional care or the therapies like the geographical, financial, and social issues but with the help of the mobile application, people who experience the slightest hint of mental illness can just download the application and get the proper and suitable environment to seek mental health consultancy. This application will be available 24/7 for every user. It will decrease the workload of mental health workers. Also, recommend scientifically proven therapies and activities for users to change negative behaviours.

This application will help users to diagnose mental health problems and provide treatment. Users' activities will be monitored regularly. The virtual assistant of this project will engage users automatically by starting a conversation. It will help the users to open up their feelings and thoughts with the help of Gifs, emoji and open-end questions. The project will be a real-time application so the personal data of the user will be encrypted and safe.
